It changed how I think about language and the mind.

The strict father/nurturing parent model is the most compelling explanation of the conservative/liberal divide I've ever seen. For the first time, I could understand that despite many seeming inconsistencies, the conservative moral framework and political ideology can be understood as a coherent and consistent mindset.

The theory is wonderfully explained in his book "The Political Mind : A Cognitive Scientist's Guide to Your Brain and Its Politics".
