Roy Moore's Acolytes: 5 Ways Anti-Gay Activists Have Lionized Alabama's Chief Justice>>
You may remember Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore as the judge who earned hero status among the Religious Right when he defied a federal order to remove a two-and-a-half ton 10 Commandments monument from a judicial building. Now Moore is winning points on the Far Right again, this time for his demand that state judges (illegally) refuse to abide by a federal court ruling striking down the state's ban on same-sex marriage. And right-wing activists are rallying to Moore's defense, endorsing his claim that state sovereignty and his personal religious beliefs trump the authority of the federal courts or the rights of Alabama's citizens.
