Senator Dan Coats (R-IN) announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election in 2016.

Back to being a lobbyist for this hack. I hope against all common sense that it puts another (D) seat in play. With all the religious and right wing insanity going on here, there is a small chance. Mighty small. But it is a chance.

Coats decided to retire from the US Senate in 1998 when Bayh was planning to run for the US Senate. Bayh got elected to the US Senate in 1998 by a landslide margin. In 2010- during a Republican wave election year, Coats decided to get back into the US Senate. Bayh decides to retire from the US Senate- Coats wins the 2010 US Senate Race by a landslide margin. 2016- Coats has announced his retirement. If Bayh decides to get back into politics and runs for the US Senate- he is going to win.
