KEENE, N.H.— Bernie Sanders asks a lot of from his audience when he delivers a campaign speech.

Defying most rules of modern political rhetoric, he doesn’t offer quips or disparage his Democratic rivals or use the platform to thank lists of friends and supporters.

The long-shot candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, in a matter-of-fact tone, typically reels off dry statistics about the rich getting richer while the middle class gets poorer.

Yet Sen. Sanders, an independent from Vermont, is turning into a box-office draw. Running nearly 50 points behind Hillary Clinton in the Democratic field, he is attracting sizable crowds as he and his tiny entourage trundle through New Hampshire and Iowa delivering the dour message that America is at risk of morphing into an “oligarchy” dominated by wealthy families and powerful corporations.

.......

Just as Mr. Sanders’s speeches are unorthodox, so are his dealings with the press. A Swedish reporter, Anne-Sofie Naslund, asked him a question, and Mr. Sanders—who has long praised the type of social democracy practiced in Scandinavian countries, turned the tables and began interviewing her.

He asked her what it cost for people to get health care in Sweden.

“Like nothing,” Ms. Naslund said.

And what does it cost to go to college? Mr. Sanders asked.

“Nothing,” she said.

Child care? “It’s almost free,” she said.

“That’s pretty good!” Mr. Sanders exclaimed.

Soon afterward, he and a few aides got into a 2011 black Ford Fusion and drove off.

their money. We pay taxes, and get shat upon. People are working night and day to eliminate anything we do get, except for war.
And, you know what? If we did not spend so much on war, we could afford the health care and the college educations and so forth.
