2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI will vote for Bernie Sanders if he is the nominee
Hillary is my candidate and my clear preference. I will vote for her in my state's primary.
But if Bernie Sanders is nominated, I will cast a ballot for him in November.
And it won't be my fault when he loses 46 states.

(17,796 posts)our problem is choosing a candidate who will bring people to the polls and help us start shifting congress. And for all her strong points, I don't think Hillary can do that.
Now Bernie on the other hand is definitely a game changer.

(44,173 posts)Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island and California, and DC.
If the other side nominates a whackadoo like Cruz or Trump, then I'd give Illinois, New York, Oregon, Washington and Maryland to Bernie.

(9,436 posts)It's so stupid to say "Bernie/Clinton is going to lose x amount of states". I bet 95% of Democrats will vote for the Democratic nominee. I want Bernie and I think he can win it all. The naysayers will have to be convinced of it but then again, the same was said of Obama.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)I had no preference between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, because of that I didn't even bother doing the primary thing. This time around I have a clear preference for Bernie, so I will vote for him in the primary.

I like a lot of his ideas, maybe most, and would love to see us pivot toward Scandinavia. But, I don't think 50% of voters will feel like that.

(19,926 posts)He isn't a registered Democrat either from what I've read. So by your standards your record is already soiled.
Many states such as Vermont and Illinois, among others, don't have party registration for individuals. Bernie has stated he is running for president as a Democrat, so he is a Democrat.
So you can support Bernie without any 'concern'. Do it. FEEL THE BERN!!!

Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)then it would be the fault of Bernie Sanders for not attracting them.
I don't think that would happen.
But if Hillary voters don't support Bernie, then it's Bernie's fault. You have to earn people's votes. You can't just expect people to vote for you.
Votes are EARNED, not given.
Just my two cents.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)So which is it?
Because if anyone hasn't "earned" Democrat's votes it's the one whose policies are centrist and corporate and hawkish.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)Liar.
I've encouraged people to vote for the nominee....whoever it is. Bernie, Hillary, O'Malley....it doesn't matter.
But I made no post saying people have to vote for Hillary in the GE.
Lies.
You have no link to backup your assertion either.

(19,926 posts)I'm pretty sure it was you I had the exchange with, saying that if Hillary was the nom that we had to vote for her, since she was the Dem. If that's true, same thing should apply to Sanders.

First this poster makes unfounded assertions and then whe called on it, is incredibly rude. Not sure why the overt vitriol is being tolerated on du lately
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Jul 3, 2015, 05:04 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Cali Dem shouldn't have called her a liar first. Cali Dem is a disruptive force on DU so all bets are off.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: those bern people are starting to burn me. Their arrogance is going to doom him sooner or later here.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I'm not going to hide a post where it's clear both members sink to the lowest level. It's obvious they despise each other-- IGNORE IS YOUR FRIEND.
You both need to clean it up.
YOU'RE BOTH DISGUSTING.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Well he did apologize and was called a liar for the 2nd time. People have their limits.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: CD does little else except hector people
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given

(14,689 posts)I'll never forget when HRC dismissed Obama in 2008, telling Bill Richardson that Obama had no chance to win the general election. It was going along with Bill Clinton's assertion that Obama's campaign was really just a "fairy tale".
It seems when they can't win on the issues they just go with the electability mantra. It wasn't too long ago that people thought Hillary Clinton was too polarizing to win a presidential election.

(44,173 posts)(though conservatives will always call the Democrat a socialist)
Obama was actually quite cozy with the Wall Street crowd in 2008.
If the Sanders crowd thinks that Adelson and the Kochs spent a lot to defeat Obama in 2012, they ain't seen nothing yet were Sanders to be the candidate Adelson and the Kochs would spend $2 billion to beat Sanders, and nobody would be able to stand up to that. Not even Sanders with his $100 contributors (cute as that is).
timdog44
(1,388 posts)that at some point in time, even people of the ilk of Adelson and Kochs will get tired of spending their money to sway political course in America for the reason that they will realize much money is to be made even in a socialistic state. They may already be regretting spending all that money. They have no idea where it will eventually end up.
Conservatives will always call the Democrat a socialist - never a truer statement ever made. And most conservatives are conservative because they hallucinate being wealthy some day. My neighbor was against the "death tax" because he thought that maybe one day he might have a lot of money. And the other neighbor who really did have the money did not have a will to leave it to anyone because he was so greedy. A blank look on his face when I said, "John, you are going to be dead anyway. Start giving it away to things you believe in right now." I still think his face is bland this three years past.
