CLINTON - Former Maryland Governor and Democratic Presidential Candidate Martin OMalley fondly recalled his time in Iowa, especially the way the people reacted to his ideas.
Ive been in a lot of 4th of July parades, I did the parade in Independence, Iowa today and it was great, he said. Unlike some places at home people waved with all five of their fingers.
OMalley said that in light of it being July 4, people have been given the gift of a great country, but there is a duty to leave it in a better place for future generations.
During his speech, OMalley touted his history as Baltimore mayor and Maryland governor and his presidential plans, including getting the United States to 100 percent renewable energies including solar, wind, and water by 2050.
We can square our shoulders as a nation to the challenges ahead and one of them Ive been talking about over these last three days in Iowa where I see so many windows that were not here 10, 15 years ago is the fact that the red, white and blue calls us all to be green, he said.

(131,105 posts)and probably pretty nice up there this time of year!
He also said that while President Barack Obama has made the hard decisions to keep the economy afloat, many are still struggling.
(Obamas) got our country moving the right direction on job creation, but the urgent work remains and it is this: to make the American dream true for all families. The hard truth of our times is that for 75 percent of us, were earning the same or less than we were 10 years ago and that is not the way the American dream is supposed to work.
He mentioned increasing the minimum wage above the poverty line, making it easier for people to join unions, expanding and strengthening Social Security and to make it possible for new American immigrants to get out of getting paid under the table and on the books. . .
He isnt worried about poll numbers before the Iowa Caucus.
The way the Iowa Caucuses work is that the inevitable front runner is inevitable right up until the caucus and then a new leader emerges, he said.

(11,495 posts)People can go to his site and find that he has plans for fixing things, jobs, climate change, infrastructure, etc. I think that come the first debate things will change and he will start getting a lot more attention. It's still early, and the media is trying to make this a "Clinton Sanders" race so they ignore the rest of the candidates running in the democratic primaries. Unlike the clown car race of the GOP, democrats actually have a great group to pick from come the primaries.
The GOP has to figure out which one of the dozens of clowns running is less crazy that the rest, and that isn't going to be easy.
