http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/bernie-sanders-jeb-bush-longer-hours-comment-react-119948.html?ml=tl_1_bBernie Sanders on Friday defended Jeb Bushs remarks that Americans need to work longer hours, acknowledging that Bush was absolutely correct if he was referring to the need for more full-time jobs than part-time jobs.
Well, of course we need full-time jobs rather than part-time jobs, but to suggest that people have got to work harder Chris, heres the fact: People in the United States of America today are working the longest hours of a people of any major industrialized countries, Sanders said in an interview on CNNs New Day with Chris Cuomo.
Bush came under fire from his presidential race rivals, including Hillary Clinton and Sanders, for his comments late Wednesday, which reminded some of Mitt Romneys 47 percent moment.
But Bush quickly clarified that he was referring the millions of people who want full-time employment and cant find it, and has found some success in defusing the situation.

ETA: I have no problem with Sander's opinion on this topic.
Informational post only, not a smear.

(8,352 posts)wow that is shitty headline.
He doesn't agree with Bush at all. He is pushing for more full-time jobs for those who are still suffering from unemployment and underemployment.

(115,719 posts)He pointed out that people need full-time jobs (because we all know employers are intentionally keeping their employees' hours to 30 so they won't have to pay benefits). Bush just wants to wring more work out of us serfs to increase the wealth of the employers. Big difference.

(4,458 posts)issue; I'd love to ask #bushCo3-Do You Understand the Problem?
Which Part Time Job do "we" need to give Up to take full time work? There are Many, Many workers Working 15-20+ hours a Week at Two/Three+ different PT jobs = 60+ hours a week.
How much more does #bushCo3 want "us" to work? Or, under the reality of todays working poor...does he want us to work Less (and earn less) by quitting multiple p/t jobs to take a f/t 40 hr week paying crap? I'm confused by his babble....
Did #bushCo3 happen to mention "we" Need Higher wages not more work/hours?

(6,002 posts)Directly from Bernie Sanders website on this very subject,
https://berniesanders.com/news/jeb-bush-says-youre-not-working-hard-enough/
Jeb Bush apparently thinks that the biggest problem facing middle class Americans is that theyre not working hard enough. In a webcast interview with the New Hampshire Union Leader, the former Florida governor and GOP presidential candidate said this:
My aspiration for the country, and I believe we can achieve it, is 4 percent growth as far as the eye can see. Which means we have to be a lot more productive, workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows. It means that people need to work longer hours
(and) through their productivity, gain more income for their families. Thats the only way were going to get out of this rut that were in.
Bernie had an immediate response:
Unfortunately, Gov. Bush does not seem to understand what is happening in our economy today. The sad truth is that because the middle class has declined over the last 40 years, while almost all new income and wealth have gone to the people on top, Americans already work the longest hours of any people in the western industrialized world. In fact, 80 percent of working men work longer than 40 hours a week. What we need now is an economy that provides decent wages and income for the middle class, not demands that people work even longer hours than they currently do.
As Bernie says, Americans are working longer hours than anyone else in the industrialized world. Productivity increases wont change that. For roughly thirty years, workers wages kept pace with productivity. That ended in roughly 1980, when conservatives took power and began implementing policies designed to ensure that the wealthiest among us kept the income created by productivity gains for themselves.
A longer workweek isnt Jeb Bushs only aspiration for the struggling middle class. He also wants to eliminate the Federal minimum wage, cut Social Security benefits, and raise the retirement age.
-----------
When all you have is to criticize the other candidate using bogus means, it translates that you are clearly understanding the danger a corporate candidacy (which seeks only maintains the status quo), truly is in. There is no inevitable queen, merely the perception her "less than" followers tout, THERE IS A WAVE sweeping this nation. It is so early, it has only just started. Stay in fear, the rest of us are going to end this fear, we are going to support the candidate who will bring about real change. Lip service is so cheap.

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This kind of post makes DU suck. This is classing shit stirring, posting fake headlines and barely concealed bashing of a candidate, and then saying hey it's just somebody else's clickbait headline not mine.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Jul 10, 2015, 11:07 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: There is a real effort to make Sanders look bad here, just like HRC's hiding out
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: What? This is taking candidate partisanship to the extreme! The post is accurate, and if it isn't "pure" enough for some people, that's too bad.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: An attempt to silence Nancy. hrmjustin
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The headline is wildly inappropriate, but not at the level of poo-flinging which is my threshold for a hide. The inaccuracy of the headline has been dealt with in the thread. Furthermore, the full quote in the posted piece reflects well on Sanders generally.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The headline is the headline, not fake and it is not a bad article. Bernie's supporters are in for a rough road. If they think this is bad they may want to move to a sugar shack in VT without wi-fi, newspapers, or electricity.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

But, not even close to jury worthy, and part of what has devolved into the Bernie supporters misusing the system.
That said, the last explanation is spot on.
Heads are going to explode if/when Bernie gets to the point that he is a real viable threat, because he is still getting the plucky underdog treatment generally. Such time as he appears to be a truly viable threat to win the nomination, you are going to see FOR REAL negative framining from the Rs channeled through the press, like Gore, Kerry, Dean, etc ...

(23,664 posts)Your initial reaction was "Don't shoot the messenger" and all you were doing was transcribing verbatim a headline that somebody else wrote.
You defended that point of view quite vehemently, and ably IMO, until you were overwhelmed by the sheer number of posters who objected.
So my question is, do you really think the original title was a mistake, or were you just bowing to peer pressure when you changed it?
In spite of my avatar there's no hidden agenda here, I'm just curious.
