Wisconsin Recall Election

 Votes per Dollar

Walker: Votes: 1,334,450 Money spent: $30,500,000 Dollars per vote: $22.86

Barrett: Votes: 1,162,785 Money Spent: 4,000,000 Dollars per vote: $3.44

That’s 15% more votes for 750% greater spending.

This is what democracy looks like? How democratic is buying an election?

Spending and voting data from the Huffington Post.

Why don't only the richest candidate/campaigns win in every race?

Sorry, money matters a lot - but it isn't the only thing that matters by a long shot.

I think the problem in Wisconsin is that Walker is the worst kind of opponent we have to face. He is a radical with a far right agenda, but he does not come off as a bombthrower. In the media he comes across as calm and reasonable. He is able to pull off the "happy warrior" schtick and those are almost always the most dangerous political enemies to deal with.
