Poll: Romney leads in Michigan

The trees may be the right height after all.

An EPIC/MRA poll out today shows Mitt Romney and Barack Obama in a statistical tie in Michigan, with Romney edging the president 46-45 percent.

The numbers are a reversal from April when the same poll had Obama up 47-43 percent.

Doesn't the EPIC/MRA poll lean a little Conservative? I think they showed Bush leading Gore in 2000.

If Obama is truly having trouble in Michigan, he will have trouble almost anyplace.

...that they had the President ahead by 4% the last time so this is not a good trend. It may have some gop biased to it in the poll but always believe bad polls to some extent so that you can be prepared. Like in WI we know that the exit polls showed the President leading, yet his campaign is listing WI as a swing state. That is smart so that they will give WI the attention it needs to get. Don't get too scared yet unless other polls show the same thing. It may be a reaction to the WI election.

RCP Average 3/14 - 6/5 -- 48.0 41.8 Obama +6.2

The RCP average of polls is the best indicator to use. RCP averages all of the polls so that biased and outlier numbers have less effect. The RCP average is deadly with its accuracy. It was so in 2008, 2010 and the RCP average even nailed the Walker recall election perfectly. Its really the only thing you need to look at. All other polls are just "pieces" of information.

Here are all of the Michigan polls below. See if you notice a trend from one polling firm?

EPIC-MRA 6/2 - 6/5 600 LV 45 46 Romney +1

PPP (D) 5/24 - 5/27 500 RV 53 39 Obama +14

Glengariff Group (R) 5/10 - 5/11 600 LV 45 40 Obama +5

EPIC-MRA 3/31 - 4/3 600 LV 47 43 Obama +4

MRG 3/14 - 3/19 600 LV 49 42 Obama +7

NBC News/Marist 2/19 - 2/20 1546 RV 51 33 Obama +18

PPP (D) 2/10 - 2/12 560 RV 54 38 Obama +16

EPIC-MRA 1/21 - 1/25 600 LV 48 40 Obama +8

EPIC-MRA 11/13 - 11/16 600 LV 41 46 Romney +5

SurveyUSA 10/12 - 10/14 500 RV 50 39 Obama +11

Inside MI Politcs/MRG 9/14 - 9/19 600 LV 44 44 Tie

PPP (D) 7/21 - 7/24 593 RV 47 42 Obama +5

EPIC-MRA 7/9 - 7/11 600 LV 42 46 Romney +4

PPP (D) 3/18 - 3/20 502 RV 48 41 Obama +7

EPIC-MRA 2/12 - 2/17 600 LV 41 46 Romney +5

PPP (D) 12/3 - 12/6 1224 RV 47 43 Obama +4

EPIC-MRA is clearly a right wing pollster. They are very similar to the Civitas polling firm based out of North Carolina. Remember its not just the Poll. Its the source of the poll and the methodology. Rasmussen for instance has a scientifically proven right wing tilt to all of its numbers.

The truth is Obama currently has a 6 point lead in Michigan. While it is behind where he was in 2008, he is definitely ahead.

And despite being considered a Democratic leaning pollster, according to Nate Silver, even PPP actually has a slight GOP lean in their results data.
