A Rally for Bernie Sanders May Wind Up in Your Living Room

July 16, 2015

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is coming soon to a house party near you, albeit digitally.

On July 29, the Sanders campaign will host coordinated house parties and organizing rallies around the world. And while Mr. Sanders would love to be at all of them, he is bound to his Senate duties in Washington.

So he’ll beam himself in via a livestream link.

“We have a technology available to us that Barack Obama and Howard Dean did not have,” Mr. Sanders said in an interview with First Draft. “And the idea that I can simultaneously be speaking to people located in 1,000 different places is pretty, pretty exciting.”

The party planning for the event will also be almost entirely digital. Hosts will set up events on the campaign website, and “super volunteers,” or “builders” as Mr. Sanders calls them, will help.

host a party, and there's your candidate talking to you! You can get 10 neighbors to come over for snacks much easier than you can to go to some arena. I'm not all that ambitious but if you were, hell you could get millions by virtue of simultaneous numbers of 10's, 20's, etc.

Let's do this!

involves your friends and family, and costs nothing.

Hell, have a potluck and we all come out ahead.

I'd love to host one of these.

That is what grassroots is all about. I am not even interested in going to a "champagne salon" (one person's words, not mine). It's just too damn boring. Let's have a house party for our candidate, hear what he has to say, and go from there. I thing having a grassroots potluck supper with a million people aggregated by ten and twenty people via Skype, Livestream, whatever, is a great idea!

What isn't to like about that? Hang out with your friends, share ideas and I get to cook! And I'm not EVEN being sarcastic. I will make a pot of beans and rice, some biscuits and enough cabbage to feed everybody, because you can't make small pots of that - but oh, goodness, when you make it, it's good.

the US that gives an idea how many events are preparing for the 29th.

The tri-state, CT, NY, NJ..88 events planned so far. The areas covered are from
all parts of the states. From upstate NY to Harlem..and more than a few mention
food, BBQ....let's do this kind of thing attitude, just as you say.

I am excited about it: http://www.democraticunderground.com/128025783#post5

Its Going to be Great! Streaming for Meet Ups! and Video Live Interaction!

I was at a couple of Howard Dean Meetups where he sent a video and would call in by Phone to Talk to the Host or Hostess. That was Sooooo... Exciting At That Time!

This takes it so much Further!

Here is what we do. We choose a service, Livestream, perhaps, or if we want it to be more interactive, we select a different service. I would think for the first one, though, we would choose something simple, since this is the first time this has been done politically.

We set up the cameras, broadcast the feed, and get the friends and family over.

Not that I don't think this is a cool development. It is. But, gremlins abound in her IT universe.

I dread the thought of being called to smoke-jump into another flaming software fire... especially in front of strangers and will gratefully leave this phenomenon to others.

My vision of -that- scenario is getting hung out dealing with an IT problem with charcoal filth all over my fingers.

Well, if I didn't laugh, I'd cry...

Still, as I told the SO, I'd be very glad to accompany her to someone else's Bernie party and watch -their- mastery over IT.

And we can.

We have to do our damnedest to make this a nation to be proud of, and for our family and friends to be proud of. The USA is the light in the dark, and it will shine.

It's quite rural here, so I have to travel further than that just for my prescriptions, doctor, groceries, ect.

Plus, there are many, many, more all over the place within 100 miles of me. And most are in very tiny towns, in red areas of this otherwise blue state.

It would be a huge understatement to say that I am very pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for the link, Scuba. I plan to attend the closest one on July 29th.

At how there were about 1000 of these home based meetings posted a few days ago (and even more have now been added)...then came the email blast and...they filled up! Some have 12 people, some have 20, some as big as 100...

There could easily be 25,000 or more Americans watching and listening!

Go Bernie!
