CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Hillary Clinton ignored her Democratic opponents in her first time sharing the stage with them Friday, focusing her ire on the GOP in a fiery speech aimed at showing she's ready to take the fight to the other side.
"I'm never going to let the Republicans rip away the progress we have made," she said to cheers from the 1,300 Democratic activists in the key early-voting state.
She made a point to call out her GOP opponents by name, with Donald Trump high on her hit list.
"Finally a candidate whose hair gets more attention than mine," she said to laughs. "But there is nothing funny about the hate he's spewing towards immigrants and their families."

And I did qualify my last by noting that the implication in Iliyah's post may have been unintended, so please kindly cut me as much slack as I've already offered.

Why don't people relax a bit and stop tearing down Democrats merely because they don't particularly like a candidate?
Childish rubbish, if you'd ask me.

Wow. Hardly hear tell of them here any more. If you spend a lot of time on DU, you can almost forget that the real enemy still exists.

(6,283 posts)He is the current GOP frontrunner. How is he a sideshow, & a ruse? Who's behind it? Is it himself, or do you fancy another entity in the background? How is it shaping my expectations when my expectations have already been met? I'm curious as to your thoughts on this. Thanks

(15,558 posts)directed by their owners of course. They amplify Trump's noise so you believe a moron could be president. Once you buy it, almost any alternative looks good. Voilà, expectations shaped and managed.

(6,283 posts)...by trumpeting Trump, it makes all the D candidates look good? Or was there a specific one you had in mind? If that was the case in your post, which it is not in my opinion, it should be making Bush, what's his name from Wisconsin, and the rest of the clown car look like super heroes. It's not. It's making them look even more pathetic than they already are. In order for your statement to be anything resembling true, the democrats would have to roll out the liberal equivalent of the trumpster, and even then it would probably have little to no effect on which candidate people choose, as for most people, that choice was made prior to the trumpster hopping on board.

(6,604 posts)Whatever pretense to outrage the RNC directs at Trump is only designed to make the rest of the field appear palatable by comparison. Fuck Trump's current numbers (hell, for that matter, fuck anyone's at this point in the process)! Recall how practically every Republican primary candidate led the pack at some juncture in 2011/12, while Romney, looking like a bowl of oatmeal, plodded along at what? 24%?
Given the attention span of the average American voter, hardly anyone will even remember Trump was in the mix come election day. They'll just see the relatively bland Bush, without quite recalling how he came to look (to them) so, uh, acceptable.

(131,176 posts)as Bernie Sanders calls for a 'revolution' and Martin O'Malley has some Clinton partisans on their feet and she talks mostly about HERSELF.
When her supporters had stopped chanting 'HIL-LA-RY' each candidate controlled the tables in one part of the cavernous banquet hall the real show began.
Martin O'Malley, the former Baltimore Mayor and Maryland's chief executive, brought a mix of passion and pathos that Clinton appeared to have left on her private jet.
His introduction was met with a standing ovation from his own section, mostly in the back of the hall. By the time he was finished, many tables that had stood for Clinton were on their feet for him.
A bullhorn-blasting organizer and a gaggle of shouting young partisans delivered the point home as Democrats left for the night, shouting slogans about his progressive accomplishments.
At one point 'O-MAL-LEY! O-MAL-LEY!' morphed into 'GO-AWAY HIL-LA-RY!'
Inside, the former governor had lobbed the evening's first earnest bombs at Clinton from her left, ticking off a list of progressive litmus tests he had passed. . .
By the time he demanded a $15.00/hour minimum wage from coast to coast, people were listening.
This was a different O'Malley, a man confident of his bona fides and unintimidated by the Clinton juggernaut.
Even his fiery critique of Trump and 'his racist, hate-filled comments,' although not new, rang as more authentic.
O'Malley mocked the Republican presidential field for being divided on whether or not Trump's charges about 'rapists' and 'murderers' coming north from Mexico were correct.
'Divided?' he asked. 'As in, "not sure he's wrong?"'
