Black Lives Matter Activists Take Over Netroots Nation to Confront Martin O’Malley

Black Lives Matter activists started chanting in unison while Martin O’Malley was on stage at Netroots Nation, and two of them ended up taking the stage so the former governor could hear their concerns.

The protesters chanted about black lives and the names of black women who have died in police custody. The women who took the stage spoke about the tragedy of black lives lost, “structural racism in the United States,” and how “we are in a state of emergency.”

The activists were also on stage to confront O’Malley about his plans to deal with racial issues and out-of-control law enforcement targeting minorities.

O’Malley’s conversation with Jose Antonio Vargas got sidelined for quite a bit of time, and Vargas was really trying to keep things going so O’Malley would have enough time to address their concerns. And after they left the stage, address them he did, talking about the “pain and grief” everyone feels when anyone loses their life.

...must be a dozen threads on this.

What do you really have to add except some already posted accounts of the incident? Seriously, what DO you have to add to this?

They deserve to be heard, but I don't think they should be hijacking Democratic events and candidates.

the Koch brothers, the Waltons and the rest of the greed head billionaires are getting a good chuckle from it. Because it looks like we'll be dumb enough to fall for it again.

Bernie says at today's rally before 12,000 peeps, including many AAs, in Pheonix.

"And like everybody in this room, I want to see an America where when young black men walk down the street they will not be harassed by police officers, they will not be killed; they will not be shot!" (Standing Ovation)

"To his credit, President Obama did something extraordinary the other day, he had the courage to go to a federal jail and talk about the absurdity of a criminal justice system in which if we don't change it 1 out of 4 male African Americans born today will end up behind bars. That is NOT the America we believe in."

"And that's why we believe it makes more sense to invest in jobs and education, not jails and incarceration!"

"And to our 11 million brothers and sisters who are living in the shadows today, we say loudly and we say clearly we are going to bring you out of the shadows and on a path toward citizenship. And we're not going to divide families up, brothers and sisters... we are the wealthiest nation in the world, there is nothing we cannot accomplish."

Sanders unfortunately got caught up in it too by being at the same event.

O'Malley has a long and troubled history with the black community.

He is a highly proper target for these protests since as Mayor of Baltimore he instigated a racist campaign of illegal mass arrests and civil rights abuses.

That time when the NAACP and ACLU sued Martin O'Malley over thousands of illegal arrests

As Baltimore mayor, O’Malley’s police tactics sowed distrust

"Failed the African-American community of Baltimore"

Where is the evidence of this? I didn't hear anything like that from them.

He can't even walk the streets of his home town without being met with angry protests.

He has a long and troubled history with the black community in Baltimore, where his policy was to illegal arrest tens of thousands of people and brutalize them.

I'm on a small phone or I would paste link. But see my other links and later I will come post more O'Malley facts.

I did read that the main target of this protest was O'Malley. Later when I get to a normal computer I will search for that and give more links, as if more evidence were actually needed considering the racist results of O'malley's mass arrests.

The people involved with the protest and the movement said that it wasn't directed at one particular candidate. And O'Malley got a lot of credit for the way he, his campaign and his supporters have responded post-protest. Sanders not so much.

They said they would have interrupted Hillary had she been there too. The whole goal was to shut it down. Not to directly target one candidate.
