2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGive Bernie some respect, the guy isn't an idiot
1st off, I lean towards Hillary. I'll get that out of the way in full disclosure.
I see comments by Bernie supporters about the blm protest and come to the conclusion they aren't giving Bernie the credit he does deserve. I can't believe that in decades of political and activist life that Bernie's feelings would be so hurt by one disruption at an event that he would turn off dialogue to an important voting block. Seriously he may have been irritated but some of you are claiming blm is burning their bridges. Are you kidding? I give Bernie some credit here. He protested, he got in people's faces to be heard, he made people uncomfortable, he shouted, he pushed causes.
I like the guy but this goes for the rest of them too, the dem party is not owed anyone's vote. The candidate that does something about it will win.

(31,893 posts)I keep thinking, it must be nice to be so protected and so privileged that having your candidate's speech interrupted is such a tragedy that you think the ones doing the interrupting - you know, the ones who get gunned down daily just for their skin color - are just too out of line. Such an inconvenience!
I hope Bernie rises to the occasion and works with the BLM to hone his message to POC. If he's made of what I think he's made of, then I have faith that he can do it.
Now if the poor shocked white liberals who support Bernie would quit freaking out and see what they can do to help build better bridges with POC, life would be grand.

(15,429 posts)If a Republican is elected president nothing will change for the #blacklivesmatter movement, which isn't one helluva lot of difference from the way things have been for decades.
Meanwhile, the candidate that directly addresses their issues and gains their respect will most likely be the nominee.

(52,162 posts)If they ever want an abortion, oh trust me, things will change. If they want to cast a vote, oh trust me, things will change. If they want health insurance, oh trust me, things will change. I could go on.

(52,162 posts)and I bet it would matter a whole lot. As bad as the police are a person with cancer and no insurance is way more likely to die than they are now by the hands of the police.

(15,429 posts)Furthermore, BLM is perfectly prepared to forgo running the gauntlet and jumping through the hoops required to vote in 2016 should their issues fail to be addressed. It takes significant effort for POC to vote in this country, and if nobody gives a shit about their issues, why would they go to that effort?
Read my signature which is a direct quote from one of the young leaders of the BLM movement.
That should have every Democrat terrified.

You may be the good example of a Sanders supporter that they need to see.
Smart politicians are going to find a way to be part of the success of BLM achieving it's just objectives.

(17,997 posts)But I think we already discussed this. Sorry if this is a repeat
I will add that Bernie Sanders did not cancel his meeting with BLM after this. He sent a delegate which was always the plan since he had a huge rally soon after

I agree with you. Bernie knows what is coming and when he gets blindsided it is a large mistake but he knows what to do. I hope he does it.
In the end we will see who actually moves to address the major issues that people want to hear about.

That is incredibly disappointing and has no doubt led to the #berniesoblack hash tag.

I'd be much obliged if you put me on ignore. I don't know who the hell you are, or what your issue is with me (though LORD KNOWS, I've got some ideas) but this is the second time you've responded to me and I'm already sick and tired of your ignorant, expletive ladden, boring garbage.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Not only does this nasty, needlessly aggressive post not come close to "discourse" but the idea that Democrats should "fuck" Black Twitter, a community of several thousand black voters is not a belief espoused by anyone that even remotely considers themselves to be liberal.

Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT

(17,997 posts)Unlike what a poster insinuates, my vote had zero to do with swearing. I really don't give a fuck about swearing and I suspect most of the jury on that one does either.
Yes, looks like we won't have to see stuff like that from him for at least a week. Suspect with the current conversations on du, it won't take long for another.

(24,544 posts)INCREDIBLE issue with the black posters on DU. As if any of us give the first crap.
Now seems their antipathy extends to the black people on Twitter too! I sense a pattern! It's bad as hell when someone does all of that unnecessary swearing and idiotic cursing and that's still not even the worse part about their posts.

(5,128 posts)addressed these issues. He talked about inequality, education, mass incarceration. And he did name Sandra and several others...
Said something re wanting young black men and women to be able to not live in fear!
His speech today, in Dallas was one of best yet.

(5,128 posts)paraphrasing here,
Let what they devide us with UNITE us!!!
And then he named off many of the issues that are used to divide us all with.
At the end he called for a political revolution. He also made it clear it is "we the people" that have to get involved!
I feel like he is channeling Eugene Debs.
