And to round out the top three candidates, Clinton addresses Sandra Bland

"My heart breaks at seeing another young African American life lost too soon," Clinton said in a statement on Wednesday. "Sandra Bland had a bright future ahead of her and it is particularly tragic that she lost her life just as she was to start her new career."

Clinton added, "From what I've seen, the circumstances of this case are incredibly disturbing. I hope and expect that there will be a full investigation into this situation. It is also a tragic reminder of the ongoing systemic issues of race and justice in America that we must address with urgency, and we have to do more than talk—we have to take action."

I have no doubt that Hillary is genuinely enraged by this. ibegurpard Jul 2015 #5

There's no way she should have been in that jail. Everyone needs to start out shouting the people who say "if you just do what they say you have nothing to worry about." There was no fucking excuse for this.

Hillary either really doesn't have a very deep emotional life or she can't express it well.

Where is the passion? Watch Elizabeth Warren for passion. Bernie is way ahead of Hillary on this.

And being able to express passion is not an irrelevant measure for a presidential candidate.

Because being able to express passion is a part of the art of or ability to communicate. It's how you move others to action. It is how your motivate others.

Bernie is good at it. Elizabeth Warren just has it. Hillary -- very little. That's why I say she could lose the general election against a more passionate Republican and there are several.

OK. My first college degree was in music.

Why do we listen to music? For the emotions it elicits in us. Rhythm, tonality, passion, sincerity, all of these things make music. The words to a song are just the frosting on the cake. Listen to Beethoven's 9th or his 3rd (Eroica) symphonies. Then listen to a Bach chorale and then to Leonard Cohen or any of the musicians of today. We listen because we are moved.

A politician, a leader, has to be able to move us.

Hillary's speech (and she has improved immensely since 2008) is not moving because her personality is not one that reaches out with emotion. One on one she is pretty good at this, but she just does not have the ability to convey in her voice and her language the spontaneity that we hear and see as passion. It's just the reality.

A lot of people love Hillary and she is not a bad person, but she will not make a good candidate. She doesn't have that gift that certain people have.

Think of Janis Joplin or Ella Fitzgerald or even Frank Sinatra. They communicated. Bernie communicates himself. With Hillary you have the feeling she is communicating moderation and self-control. That's not communication. It's a problem. Her statement is passionless.

Hillary's????

I studied singing. She doesn't have "it." She just doesn't. She has a boring, controlled presentation. Her wording is stilted and stiff.

Sanders' Statement:

"This video of the arrest of Sandra Bland shows totally outrageous police behavior," Sanders stated on Wednesday. "No one should be yanked from her car, thrown to the ground, assaulted and arrested for a minor traffic stop. The result is that three days later she is dead in her jail cell. This video highlights once again why we need real police reform. People should not die for a minor traffic infraction. This type of police abuse has become an all-too-common occurrence for people of color and it must stop."

Clinton's Statement:

"My heart breaks at seeing another young African American life lost too soon," Clinton said in a statement on Wednesday. "Sandra Bland had a bright future ahead of her and it is particularly tragic that she lost her life just as she was to start her new career."

Clinton added, "From what I've seen, the circumstances of this case are incredibly disturbing. I hope and expect that there will be a full investigation into this situation. It is also a tragic reminder of the ongoing systemic issues of race and justice in America that we must address with urgency, and we have to do more than talk—we have to take action."

You're honestly saying that, though the statements hit the same points and with the same tone, Sanders' is more passionate?

Clinton: passive phrasing, feeling words.

It's elementary writing and speaking. Use active, action words. Avoid the polite, passive voice in order to convey emotion.

Compare: Bernie's "dead in her jail cell" with Hillary's "lost her life."

Bernie's language is alive.

Also compare:

Bernie:

"This type of police abuse has become an all-too-common occurrence for people of color and it must stop."

"it must stop." Final statement -- most important part of the sentence for emphasis and leaves an impression of strength.

Hillary:

It is also a tragic reminder of the ongoing systemic issues of race and justice in America that we must address with urgency, and we have to do more than talk—we have to take action."

Words, words, words, words, -- too many words to paraphrase Saliere in the movie, Mozart.

And all the words are mealy-mouthed. "we must address with urgency"?????

"we have to take action."

Top it off with the difference in their vocal delivery and Bernie is the stronger candidate.

This has nothing to do with the fact that Hillary is a woman. It has to do with her personality.

Elizabeth Warren is a woman, and listen to her speak extemporaneously. Bernie also doesn't need a script-writer. He is who he is, a forceful, commanding, leading voice for morality and social conscience.

Hillary is a good person. She is not a good communicator. It's not born in her. Sorry.

I said I studied singing. I did, and I have a good voice and I am a good musician. But I am not a performer. I have listened watched and thought long about why I am not a good performer. I'm an introvert. I'm not even a good classroom teacher. I'm great one on one. I had a job in which I had to speak publicly. I did OK. But I did it by ignoring everything around me and just focusing on speaking to one person at a time.

Sorry, Hillary. Them's the breaks. We are who we are.
