Why shouldn't we be "tough on crime"? Crime is criminalized for a reason, and I certainly think that we should be tough on certain crimes. I need more details before signing off on something so general.

But the terms "Law and Order" and "Get Tough on Crime" aren't really about literally reducing the crime rate in this country. They are code phrases for the agenda listed below:

1) Singling out PoC as being uniquely responsible for violent crime;
2) Subjecting PoC communities to relentless harassment, oppression and persecution by the police;
3) The deliberate encouragement of irrational and excessive fears of PoC criminality among whites(in point of fact, there are very few incidents of PoC violence against whites);
4) The refusal by the police to acknowledge that people in PoC communities can be either innocent bystanders or victims of crime themselves.

and some folks want the full privileges of their "rank" and stations.

This is another one these rat holes the country gets driven into when the right wing gets into full blown rally behind a meme come hell or high water mode ...
