Some interesting polling numbers in the latest PPP

First of all, Bernie's numbers amongst AAs have taken a hit, but his approvals amongst Hispanics are quite a bit better.

But O'Malley's numbers amongst both are downright toxic, and probably irrecoverable. This is interesting, particularly because many of the Bernie critics on DU claim to be fans of O'Malley:-

Another interesting thing is Ben Carson. His approval ratings are in negative territory, but so are all of the Republicans (and the Democrats). He's closer to breaking even than just about anyone else:-

He doesn't do so well in the matchups against Hillary. Actually, the Republican that does best in a matchup with Clinton is Rand Paul. He is on 45/42, and quite a bit ahead of her with independents:-

He also manages to peel off a little bit of Democratic support against Hillary, suggesting that at least a few Democratic supporters would still prefer a conviction politician to a pragmatist.

Those subsamples are small and have huge margins of error...

I believe in one subsample Jim Webb is polling at 15% among Latinos.

I have a very difficult time believing 32% of the respondents even know who Lincoln Chafee is, let alone know enough about him apart from his party to know if they like\dislike him.

granted, you may not agree with those convictions, but he does have them.

There's nothing wrong, necessarily, with being a pragmatist. Its made Clinton the formidable machine politician that she is today.

This is a guy who create a Board to certify him as an ophthalmologist. And his dad is now spending his retirement selling books on late night television. If you want to find someone to bash Hillary with, please find someone with more credibility.

and I'm not sure it enters into anyone's considerations.

I didn't organise the poll, or the responses it garnered. Nevertheless it appears as though Paul would be competitive with Clinton in a matchup, and I am speculating as to the reasons why.

If you have objections to the poll results themselves, may I suggest walking outside and having a good primal scream, perhaps tearing your shirt asunder with your hands in the process. The visual effect of this act is even more impressive if you are kneeling in the glow of a streetlight during a rainstorm.

Rand isn't a pragmatist, he's an opportunist. His supporters are clearly morons of the highest order.

I am not saying that all convictions are good, or that politicians are best served by having them.
