Neither of them will produce any Palin-size fiascos, which will be helpful for the GOP, but they probably wouldn't excite their ravenous base too much either, which will make things more difficult for them, of course, particularly since they don't trust Romney much already. If they go with a real bland "Romney-esque" clone, then the GOP is probably betting that the base hates President Obama so much that they would vote for Romney no matter who he chooses.

Except for Bobby Jindal, who is a boring brown guy. In any case, they are all guys and they are all boring. Mitt's campaign is about to become an even bigger snooze than it already is. All of those dudes have the ability to suck all of the energy out of whatever venue they occupy. Mitt's campaign will be a charisma black hole. It's where excitement goes to die.

Portman speaks 'fluent spanish' big deal! They think something like that matters more than how you stand on real issues. I also don't think that Portman necessarily means that Ohio will go GOP.

This story didn't get much play against Pawlenty when it broke because his campaign was toast...so if Romney chooses him, it's not overexposed...it could be the Willie Horton moment of the 2012 campaign. Why is Romney's judgement so poor that he knowingly-chose a running mate who pardoned a serial pederast?

This is the story every governor fears:

Two years ago, Gov. Tim Pawlenty and two other officials pardoned Jeremy Giefer, who had served a short time in jail in the 1990s as a young man for having sex with a 14-year-old girlfriend whom he later married.

Blue Earth County prosecutors now say Giefer was sexually assaulting another young girl hundreds of times before and after he received his pardon.
