https://twitter.com/blm_seattle/status/630145741571264513I hope this was only a matter of miscommunication and will be rectified.
I made some disparaging comments earlier so I certainly want to be fair in my assessment of this organization. If this is true, then I rescind my earlier allusions and hope ALL progressives and liberal can work together.

(135,425 posts)BLM. Anyone can create a twitter account. More to the point, the protest was organized by a different group entirely, not BLM, and this group's philosophies are more Huey Newton than Huey Lewis. They want to be heard, and they're not going to play the wallflower:

This is beginning to sound like political operatives more than activists, Anastasia (I do like a good Will & Grace marathon).

I heard from some "members" on Twitter that I don't "understand" and that they know where HRC stands. I asked why they don't know Sanders' stand since it's been on the Internet for years, but was told I was condescending.
Apparently, they can insult others, but those of us who ask them legitimate questions are accused of not caring.
This is just not a way to make friends and influence people.

(135,425 posts)shut up, as their statement of purpose makes clear:
https://outsideagitators206.org/who-we-are/
We are the Outside Agitators 206.
First off, we have four points of unity:
We center Black voices to celebrate and affirm Blackness. We believe that any movement to end anti-Black racism must be led by Black people.
We believe that everyone has a right to resist their oppressors and what resistance looks like varies for different individuals and different circumstances.
We dont directly speak to corporate media, nor do we need them. We are our own voice.
Fuck the police: As an institution fundamentally rooted in white supremacy and anti-Blackness we reject the police presence in our communities, absolutely. It is our responsibility to hold each other accountable and keep each other safe.
We are abolitionists in the year 2015. We want an end to police terror, we want an end to slavery that is the prison system, and we want the people who profit from this held accountable.
Aside from that, we are as varied as the plant life in the North West. We are youth, students, workers, parents, teachers, artists, street philosophers, survivalists, revolutionaries, solutionaries, Queer, Black, Brown, Indigenous, and White Allies. We are from the town, we are transplants, we are economic refugees, we are the result of colonization, slavery and genocide. Essentially we are people that deserve a dignified life and want the same for our brothers and sisters in the struggle towards Black Liberation. Cuz when Black folks get free, we all get free.
We do this work in Memory of Mike Brown-18, Oscar Grant-22, John T. Williams, Eric Garner-43, Tamir Rice-12, Rumain Brisbon-34, Akai Gurley-28, Kajieme Powell-25, Ezell Ford-25, Dante Parker-36, John Crawford III-22, Tyree Woodson-38, Victor White III-22, Yvette Smith-47, McKenzie Cochran-27, Jordan Baker-26, Kimani Gray-16. These are only a small portion of those that were murdered by police, we do this work for all those un-named, for the families that have lost a loved one to police violence, for all those that have been brutalized daily by the police.
This aint your daddys civil rights movement Tef Poe

Black Lives Matter Seattle organizers and supporters take over Bernie Sanders rally at Westlake on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
Today BLM Seattle, with the support of other Black organizers and non-Black allies and accomplices, held Bernie Sanders publicly accountable for his lack of support for the Black Lives Matter movement and his blatantly silencing response to the #?SayHerName #?IfIDieInPoliceCustody action that took place at Netroots this year.

(11,366 posts)Wow.
Their goal is to make people kiss their ass like white people have done to them for years?
They sound like right-wing Israelis who don't remember what the Nazis did to them as they corral and ghettoize Palestinians.

(11,366 posts)the individual members are in total, obviously. No one really could.
But #BowDownBernie?
So offensive.

(62,325 posts)quo. BLM doesn't seem to know who they are either. Another apology has come from them implying they are not familiar with them. And they certainly don't appear to be speaking for the movement, which from day one, I doubted and said so.
Seeing people here jumping on this bandwagon after NRN made me wonder where they were during the Ferguson protests, since I never saw any of them help US try to keep an interest here on DU in this most serious issue. The 'sudden support' for the issue literally stunned me as I recall one of the best reporters of the events surrounding Ferguson, posted his goodbye due to 'lack of interest' on DU. We begged him not to leave, but he like many of us, went elsewhere to try to get support for AAs re this terrible situation.

Yes, I do.
What I don't get is how this helps any progressive cause - theirs, mine, the working person, the gay person. I do, however, see how it helps yours.

(9,086 posts)Who's accountable? She's the leader of a cell of a few people? Maybe 5 people?
I sure as hell hope #BowDownBernie isn't the message of a group of people larger than 5.

(62,325 posts)are doing approved of by the people involved in the movement.
That sounds like it came from someone who does represent the movement, is embarrassed by what these protesters did in THEIR name.
Good for them.
Shameful to USE such a horrible and ongoing crime against AAs for political purposes.

(17,064 posts)It's just about wanting personal face time on camera. It just marginalizes BLM movement by pissing off their allies. It's too bad, but that's what happens when you have narcissistic leadership.

(32,902 posts)If they truly did, they would be begging the first black president and his attorney general to do something, anything to help. Since they are actually IN OFFICE NOW.
It's interesting that they are going after the one person who has done the most for all people. Bernie wont take office for two years. Maybe they should change their name to #blackliveswillmatterintwoyears. Apparently they don't care to go to the people who might be able to help NOW.
