Comparing Sanders and O'Malley's Criminal Justice Reform Plans

(by askew at DailyKOS: http://www.dailykos.com/user/askew_) - There is a poll at the bottom of the post at the link.

Now, that we have 2 candidates who have released detailed criminal justice reform plans I thought it would be interesting to compare them to each other. While this is not the sum of either candidate's positions on criminal justice reform, it is interesting to see what each candidate included in their plan. And while I am an O'Malley supporter, Sanders remains my 2nd choice and I think both plans are excellent and worthy of discussion.

Please Note: As Hillary hasn't released her plan yet, I am not including her in my comparison. Yes, I know she's made statements, but it isn't a full plan. I'll wait until she releases the plan for that comparison.

Martin O'Malley's Full Plan vs. Bernie Sanders's Full Plan

Below is a summary of each candidate's positions:

I got a 98% match with Bernie, a 90% match with Clinton (OK, that one surprised the hell outta me), but only 70% with O'Malley, and Webb didn't even show up in my tally.

This leads me to believe O'Malley is even to the right of Clinton, who I already feel is too far to the right for me in spite of the 90% matchup.

Can you, as an O/Malley supporter, shed any light on why that may be? Is he politically to the right of Clinton? I beg ignorance since I know little to nothing about O'Malley.

O'Malley is to the left of HRC, imo. If you want some more info on an excellent Democratic candidate, please check out the O'Malley group here on DU.

Here's why I support O'Malley

Martin O'Malley:

1. Ended death penalty in Maryland
2. Prevented fracking in Maryland and put regulations in the way to prevent next GOP Gov Hogan fom easily allowing fracking.
3. Provided health insurance for 380,000
4. Reduced infant mortality to an all time low.
5. Provided meals to thousands of hungry children and moved toward a goal for eradicating childhood hunger.
6. Enacted a $10.10 living wage and a $11. minimum wage for State workers.
7. Supporter the Dream Act
8. Cut income taxes for 86% of Marylanders (raised taxes on the rich).
9. Reformed Maryland’s tax code to make it more progressive.
10. Enacted some of the nation’s most comprehensive reforms to protect homeowners from foreclosure.

There is a lot more, but I'll only add that Mother Jones magazine called him the best candidate on environmental issues.

Some online "test" is supposed to take the place of actual information, his record, etc.? I don't think so. What is see in O'Malley is someone that is not just talking the talk, but is, and has in the past, walked the walk. His record speaks volumes. I want to know what person plans on doing to fix things in this country, and O'Malley has written out just how he will do that, fix things.

You should check "him" out instead of going by some online test. You just might like what you find out.
