2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAs a Clinton supporter, congrats to Bernie and his supporters on the NH poll
No snark or backhanded compliments. Bernie just received the best results he's had this primary season in NH, and I think it is worth acknowledging the work he and his supporters have put in to get to this point. His campaign just hadn't quit, and yesterday that dedication was rewarded with a poll showing him taking the lead in NH.
But...
Actually, no buts. This is his and his supporters moment. Enjoy it.

But don't think poorly of me the next time I get into it here, heh.

(14,755 posts)I was feeling like his chances were slipping away earlier this week, but now it looks like he quickly regained his momentum.
Should we thank BLM, the large turnout out west, or both? Who knows? All press is good press, right?
I know one thing. It's beyond time that I order a bumper sticker.

That being said, I wouldn't necessarily dismiss it, and Bernie most likely will take NH.

(6,437 posts)So the question is will other polls show the same result. But, regardless of background here, it is a watershed moment for Sanders. I don't mind waiting a few hours before arguing in GDP again.

Solid research methodology is solid methodology.
However, I have not reviewed their work.
That said, I, too, expect Bernie to win NH and, possibly, Iowa.

(700 posts)As a Clinton supporter, too, its nice to be able to reply to a post where Im not banned!!! And I offer my humble congratulations for an exciting campaign for Bernie so far.
Look, Ill lay in on the line. I fight back against Bernie only because of some of his supporters on DU and some nasty comments made about Hillary Clinton. Thats it. It has NOTHING to do with Bernie because I really like Bernie a lot! He just happens to be running for President at a time when Hillary is, too, and I am supporting Clinton. If Hillary does not win the nomination I will gladly support Bernie. I will not support Webb or Chafee!
Part of me also fights back when I hear comments made about Hillary such as oligarchy, corporatist Dem, not a true lib, Wall Street insider, will do whatever it takes to win, coronation to the Queen, etc. I get that some think Hillary is old news, the status quo, reliving the Bill Clinton years, on a power trip, etc. I dont believe that, but I get why some do. But when I hear nasty comments made about someone I really like (Hillary) I fight back.
I know Bernie supporters do not think Hillary would make a good President, but a lot of us Hillary supporters think Bernie would (or maybe thats just me only?).
No matter, in 2008 I started off supporting Bill Richardson (remember him? he didnt last long) and when it came down to Hillary and Obama, I was with Hillary. When Obama was the victor, I was at a rally here in St Louis where we drew 100,000 for Obama (very exciting!).
I love Dems (well, most of them!) and the Dem Party. I love our diversity and our inclusion of folks not welcomed elsewhere. I love libs and all things liberal. As a child of the 60s, I have no doubt that era influenced my political thinking to this day civil rights, gay rights, womens lib, Woodstock, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr, Vietnam, etc. We Dems may not be perfect, but I love what we stand for and for whom we fight. And it is imperative that we win next year no matter who is our nominee. I have said before we must swing back the Supreme Court to the left! It has been out of balance for far too long.
There Ive said it. May the 2016 Dem candidates have a good clean and righteous fight. We are not each others enemy. The Republican Party is the enemy and must be stopped at all costs!!!
Good luck everyone, peace out!

(2,338 posts)I read this term in this morning's edition of the WaPo. Ironically it was about what Bristol (oh how I hate typing the P-name) said about Trump, but I thought the golden nugget of the op-Ed was this paragraph by the author.
"One of the things Ive been most struck by, whenever I find myself in rooms of people who all share the same beliefs (on whatever side of the aisle) is how ready they are to assume that the people who do not share those beliefs are being disingenuous. That beliefs you disagree with are somehow less genuine than those you share because No Intelligent Person Could Truly Believe Such A Thing or because Theyre Just Claiming That Theyre Offended To Shut Us Up as though there were some big red Outrage Button that could be pressed, on cue, to achieve a desired political result."
We all have the same end goal. Preventing a Repug WH. Whoever the ultimate Dem nominee is, I will support. Right now, I throw my towel in with Bernie.

(1,309 posts)which welcomes open and honest debate of the issues. I do not welcome your attempts to shu down what we feel are objective criticisms supported by evidence , witness many of her positions o on mandatory sentencing, support of NAFTA, support of Keystone, tieing environmental protection to increased corporate profits to high tech companies rather than homeowner and individual solutions, her non-support for cap and trade, her less than ringing endorsement of the Iran deal, her constant reference to women rights as family issue but never mentioning husbands and fathers, nor sons in her speeches. Her constant portrayal of her mother's being so poor earlier in life, her remarks that if you want to know how I would stand you can when I am President, her use of Private emails which appears to set herself as smarter than those who write security guides and regulations, her statements that if necessary we might do something about Citizens United etc, her non support of re-instituting Glass Steagall, and her support of the Trans Pacific Partnership etc. Everything we learn about Hillary places her to the right of Obama a centrist at best, and a moderate republican of the eighties accordiing to his own description, yer she has made claims of being a Progressive. She probably does not recognize that Progressives have a common set of values which drive their views and decisions. When we see the inconsistency she expresses , we recognize she is pandering to us by calling herself that and insulting us with her stands on the issues mentioned above which no one who understands that Progressives like real not bought Conservatives have values guiding our decisions and we do not simply pick and choose. So yes, we see her as an opportunist pandering.
As for loving democrats, have you not recognized how much destruction of democratic values was done by Clintons when they were in the White House? I do not even see how you can even mention Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr wthout recognizing that both men fought the oligarchy and died for that reason. Do you not remember Clinton's changes in welfare greatly damaging poor families, especially black families? Do you not remember how he supported an end to housing assistance creating more homeless? Do you not see his increase of military budgets and continuation of republican policies of war as getting peopple into line with our business interests? Sure he increased taxes on the rich a few percent to 39 percent but also implemented more writeoffs for Big business such as faster depreciation etc.. Clinton is tied to Bill. She helped him and now benefits from thast name recognition but with that connection comes connection to a man who ran as a populist progression but immediately moved right in his support of Free Markets as a solution to our problems of joblessness at home. He has said he was wrong about some things but the list we blame him for most is still long and we see Hillary doing everything to pander with band aids to prevent class struggle rather than fight the fight. I think you should adopt people first, party second in your thinking.
Personally I think if you cannot see that saying can't we all just get a long is just a demand we all get in line as democrats who can be written off as silly progressives you just refuse to see that we Bernie people are trying to do something great for our people and that is to bring working people, poor people, and the 98 percent together to reduce the influence of billionaires on our government. We are working hard to get them to vote democratic. We want a big tent that includes the disillusioned as well as the disenfranchised. We want the Green party, the democratic Socialists, the socialist party, the workers party, and independents in our party, not because we are happy with words like inclusion but beacuse we have great commonality in progressive values with these parties and feel we all need to stand against class division by the 2 percent who benefit most from our government's actions.
As for a good clean fight, I see nothing from Hillary that welcomes a good clean fight. If she like O'Malley would complain about the limited number debates and the attempts by the DNC to remove the rights of candidates to debate wherever outside the DNC debates, I might believe your preferred candidate actually believes in a god clean fight. To date her position appears I will not stand up for more debates anywhere, since she only says she will show up for any debate, certainly avoiding debate regardig the issues.
So all in all I consider your remarks as not genuine. Sorry Ido not appreciate your attempt to ask us to avoid critical analuysis of your candidates stand on issues, her conduct of her campaign, and who her donors are. I love progressive democrats. I do not love all who call themselves democrats either and I probably do not like you. I do not see you as promoting a big tent because I believe the loss of membership in the democratic party has occurred due to third wat democrats who while throwing crumbs to the 98 percent of the people are for big Business and its owners over people.

(46,436 posts)And I'm going to say right here that I personally make every effort not to trash talk Hillary. There are areas where I don't agree with her, and Bernie is much more in line with my own political philosophies, but I don't think it helps when we tear each other, and our candidates, down. The real enemies are on the other side.
