I don't think SC is as excited about Newt as his primary win might indicate.

WARNING: This is all based on totally anecdotal evidence.

I live in SC and have to drive about 10 miles through populated areas to get to work. I pass businesses and neighborhoods and various private homes. There is ONE Gingrich sign up on that ten mile drive. There are no Romney signs anywhere. I literally cannot find one. There are at least four Ron Paul signs within about twenty minutes of my house, but that's it. Also, just about everybody I come in contact with at work is a Republican and lives either in SC or NC. I have been taking an informal 'poll' for the past week or so and nobody is really excited about anybody. One person I come in contact with really regularly is a staunch Republican and when I asked him this morning about Newt or Mitt, he rolled his eyes and mumbled something that translated to 'I don't want to talk about it.' He added that he 'pretty much just doesn't care' any more.

This really doesn't mean anything. It could be too early in the year, it could be that my area is unusually inactive politically this election cycle or it could be a million other things. I just thought it was a little weird when everyone is acting like SC is in love with Newt that I can't find anybody who will even talk about him.

I checked that just now, too. It was a big turnout. So maybe it is just around here, but renie408 Jan 2012 #11

once the primary is over, no one cares about the presidential election anymore? That's pretty far fetched.

but a more plausible explanation why there are a lack of yard signs is, perhaps, people who would've normally come out to vote Republican are going to sit this one out and wait for 2016 (Jebbie Bush and Chris Christie) despite what corporate media is trying to sell us.

When I was supporting John Edwards, I kept his "Vote for John Edwards" in my yard until he bowed out. Then I supported Obama '08 and kept his sign in my yard until the Obama/Biden signs were available.

At any rate, knowing how passionate Republicans are, it's just striking how they're not putting out yard signs to show their support. It's what they always do.

although it doesn't guarantee a thing.

I believe a LOT of Republicans are disappointed in the nominees, probably more than we are, and they'll either vote for whoever wins the primary or they'll stay home and wait for Jebbie in 2016.

Even they can see the country isn't back on track enough for another Republican to destroy, so they're probably keeping their powder dry until 2016 when our economy is back on track, the budget is coming closer to being balanced, and there's more money to take from the unwashed masses than there is now. Just a thought.

none of the people that are usually chest thumping Republicans that I know are all that enthusiastic. The turnout would lead me to think that people here are fired up, but my personal experience says otherwise.

The only signs I saw were set out on primary day, just barely at the legal distance from the polling place on the busiest street in town. They were all for Newt. I have seen a couple Ron Paul stickers, one Romney bumper sticker, and one Perry sticker. And, most of the Paul stickers were old ones. I see way more Obama 2012 stickers around here, believe it or not. This is Strom Thurmond country.
