2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumO’Malley’s son tells him 3 in 10 voters have some idea who he is. And that’s quite an improvement.
Democratic presidential hopeful Martin OMalley, who continues to ride low in the polls, often jokes about his standing while on the campaign trail and during interviews.
The latest example of his self-deprecating humor comes in a new episode of Chair Chat, a series of interviews hosted by South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison that are posted on the partys Web site.
OMalley, the former Maryland governor, tells Harrison that his 17-year-old son, William OMalley, has been helping out his campaign in Iowa, the nations first caucus state, and provides regular updates from his perspective from the ground.
Hes says, Dad, weve been making steady progress. When we announced two months ago, only one of every 10 people had any idea who you are. Now three out of 10 people have some idea who you are.
OMalley, turning more serious, tells Harrison that he is climbing the steep and narrow path, adding: Im absolutely convinced that the people of our country are looking for new leadership and the ability to get things done again as a nation.
On the trail, OMalley has also been telling audiences that theres a history of candidates surging in Iowa during the summer who dont prevail in the caucuses.
So youll be glad to know we are not surging too early, he added to laughter during a recent stop in Grundy Center, Iowa. . .
The interviews also include some more serious moments. In OMalleys episode, which debuted online Monday, he is asked what went through his head at the liberal Netroots Nation conference in Phoenix last month when his time on stage was interrupted by protesters from Black Lives Matter. The protesters remained to confront Sanders, who appeared at the forum after OMalley.
At first, I thought that maybe it was about something I had said, OMalley tells Harrison, and then I quickly realized it was making the very important point that as a nation historically and in present times we tend not to attach as much significance to black lives as white lives in the way we act and react to violent crime or disparities in our criminal justice system.
I hope Bernie Sanders didnt take it personally either.

(11,495 posts)I think it's time for the debates now, we should not have to wait for the first debates to start in October. I know O'Malley's numbers will go up when the country gets to hear him in a debate with the other candidates. Waiting till October does not help get the message out, or let the public hear from "all" the candidates. If the DNC wants to wait for their debates, fine, but they should not ban anyone from those debates if they go to another debate not "sanctioned" by the DNC.

I HOPE MO'M's looking into exercising a right to participate in 'other' debates.

I like the policies of Martin, Bernie and Hillary. I think they all have specific strengths.
In my humble opinion, Martin O'Malley brings optimism and enthusiasm along with specific policies. He shows clearly that he has workable solutions and the conviction that we can accomplish them.

(12,655 posts)is pure bs and we know why dws did it. this is helping protect hillary and delaying the others from getting onto a national stage.
i really worry that as october approaches, they are gonna pull something. or else make up such bulllshit questions that do not challenge their preferred candidate.
i guess there has been so much game playing with the debates, i will believe it when i see it.

(39,215 posts)and he is getting know to some extent but Martin needs more exposure. This is the worst primary I have seen since I voted for JFK.
