WASHINGTON -- Newly released video of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's private meeting with Black Lives Matter activists in New Hampshire last week shows a testy exchange between Clinton and the activists.
In one of two clips of the meeting posted by Good Magazine on Monday, Clinton suggests that the activists need to have strong policy goals if they want to create real change, using the women's and gay rights movements as a comparison.
One of the activists takes issue with her comments. "This is and has always been a white problem of violence. There's not much that we [black people] can do to stop the violence against us," Julius Jones of Black Lives Matter tells Clinton.
Clinton pushes back: "Respectfully, if that is your position, then I will only talk to white people about the very real problems."
The Clinton campaign said in an email to The Huffington Post that the video presented the candidate's comments out of context, and provided a full transcript of the meeting, which can be found at the end of this article. There does not appear to be a full, unedited video of the meeting available, but the transcript reveals that the two excerpts published by Good cover most of the discussion.
In the video, Jones continues: "That's not what I mean. What you just said was a form of victim-blaming. What you were saying was that what the Black Lives Matter movement needs to do to change white hearts "
I dont believe you change hearts," Clinton replies. You change laws, you change allocation of resources, you change the way systems operate.

(135,425 posts)and "suspect" and that it just wasn't believable that #BLM protesters could get stuck in traffic on the way to do their protest. That the "Clinton campaign" was conspiring with the protesters...that they had a hand in the Westlake demonstrations, too.
No matter how many times I tried to iterate that #BLM isn't approaching these issues from an electoral "endorsement" perspective, I was told that it was "Clinton" out to get "Bernie."
Those kinds of accusations are all over this board, so I'm really very glad you've posted proof that dispels that kind of spurious and divisive talk. As I said before and I will say again, #BLM doesn't have a candidate. That's NOT their approach. They have an agenda, and they want attention paid. They're tired of black people, mostly, but not always, young adults, getting murdered by the police.
Bravenak tried to tell everyone this. No one wanted to hear.

(46,585 posts)* BLM pre-announced via Twitter and the New Republic reporter of their intent to disrupt a Clinton campaign event.
* BLM arrived too late to gain entrance to the event, so they were shuffled into an overflow room.
* Clinton campaign claims BLM asked for no press coverage of their private meeting, BLM says not true.
That's what you read here, not the completely fabricated claims you have made.

(135,425 posts)and that the reason they were late to arrive is because it was all a big plot.

(46,585 posts)Sanders was shoved out of the way, called a "liberal white supremacist," with BLM refusing to surrender the mic after 20 minutes.
Clinton received advanced notice of a "planned disruption" with BLM reps using words such as "respectfully" when speaking to Clinton.
Quite a difference in tone, wouldn't you say?
You are exaggerating/fabricating the discussion here to fit your agenda which is to press false memes against the Sanders candidacy.

You can look through those archives, plug in Soros and Sanders and Black Lives Matter, and you can find mentions of those half-baked Soros and Clinton conspiracy theories well before the NH protest action.
But hey, keep doubling down with more theories....apparently you're under the misguided impression that all these activisits are cut from a cookie cutter, or are the same person...? That they're operating from a script? That they're modulating their TONE under orders from some superior...?
I'm not exaggerating or fabricating anything. I don't have to--you're doing a great job proving my point. And that's all about YOUR agenda, not mine.
I think the sooner people realize that #BLM is not going to cut ANY candidate any slack, the better off everyone will be. Bravenak tried to tell people this, no one listened.

(135,425 posts)Sanders listened to what those young women said. He's not pushing back against the points that these women raised. They've been put on his website. He's "over it." His supporters--for some curious reason--are not.
This interview is instructive:

(34,172 posts)Most conspiracy theories are wrong, but there is nothing in this video that disproves the idea that BLM is treating HRC differently compared to her contenders, especially Sanders, and one can honestly wonder why.
Could be timing. Could be circumstances. Could be different BLM protesters. Could be bias. And yes, there could be an element of political theatre, but there is no independent proof of explicit arrangements.

(135,425 posts)some of the most virulent wingnut sites on the internet. They were insulting and appalling. Soros funds them! He's paying them to disrupt Sanders' events! They're colluding with Clinton!
You DO understand, don't you--and I'm thinking you don't--that #BLM is not a BORG? I would urge you to take a look at their website and get an understanding of how the movement operates. It's not a top-down environment. It's more like Occupy, except there are founders who aren't afraid to be named and give opinions, who do provide no small amount of non-binding guidance, but each unit of the movement--and it is a movement, not a club--operates independently.
If #BLM is treating Hillary differently, that's because the people who challenged her are NOT THE SAME PEOPLE who challenged Bush or Sanders. "Could be different protesters?" Are you serious?
They don't all look alike--nor do they protest alike...all you have to do is look at the pictures and it is OBVIOUS that they are different protesters--to say nothing of the fact that Worcester MA, where the protesters came from, is a helluva long way from Seattle.
Large sigh.
I wonder why I even bother...?
aikoaiko
(34,172 posts)Of course they were different protesters but was the different interaction due to that was my question.
The Seattle protesters were different people from the Netroots protesters protesters, but the plan was largely the same. And then there was the quiet, respectful dialogue with HRC. One thing was not like the others.
And a large sigh right back at you.

(135,425 posts)Conspiracy theories, lifted straight from right-wing websites, are not ideas we as Democrats normally take seriously or even give the time of day--one has to be full of bile to shop that Soros funding BLM to attack Sanders to benefit Clinton tall tale here, and I have seen that theme on these pages. It's a theme that is frequently seen on sites run by groups that are listed as Hate organizations by the SPLC. It has no place here. It's not "just an idea." It has a bigoted element to it, it's ugly, it's wrong. So, yeah...geesh!
Clinton is not running a BIG RALLY/STUMP SPEECH campaign. She's meeting with small groups, having conversations, and taking questions in more intimate settings--she's not talking herself hoarse, she doesn't have to project to make herself heard in a small room, and she's also listening. So of course the dynamic is not the same. She does have security, because she is a former FLOTUS and Congress decided after 911 that this was a good use of funds. Anyone who resents that can complain to their representative.
I suspect that the #BLM protesters realized fairly quickly, when Clinton asked them to meet with her, that they would not HAVE to yell or scream to get her attention. And they didn't have to yell, because she engaged them directly. She listened, she heard what they had to say. Political theater is only needed when you have trouble getting someone's attention--she gave them her full attention.
She's a good listener. She always has been.

(135,425 posts)specifically attributed that fact to #BLM--not "The Hill Team."
That tweet you posted is a retweet by BLM of a tweet from Gabriel Debenedetti, a POLITICO reporter, NOT a "Hill Team" staffer. And he is apparently quoting someone from BLM--at least that is what it sounds like from his vague, no-name tweet.
How hard is it to say Fred Kadiddlehopper from BLM asked that the mtg be closed?
BlackLivesMatterBOS
?@BLM_Boston BlackLivesMatterBOS retweeted Gabriel Debenedetti
This is incorrect information. BlackLivesMatterBOS added,
Gabriel Debenedetti @gdebenedetti
The #BlackLivesMatter activists have requested that their meeting with Hillary be closed to the media.
He's not saying 'Clinton's operatives TOLD ME that BLM requested'....he's saying 'BLM have requested.' Further, his wording is horribly oblique--clearly not a graduate of Columbia Journalism School, is he?
This POLITICO reporter (and they are no friends of Clinton) is saying that BLM made this request--not anyone from Clinton's camp.
I'm not quite getting "blocked the media" in that post, either --particularly since there's video available, as well as a full written transcript that includes comments before and after these two clips (which tells me that someone else was recording the conversation as well).
It's ambiguous. And that just might be a polite way of saying "poor reporting." But that's POLITICO.
Maybe BLM didn't want POLITICO in the room...! I couldn't say I blame them!!!!

You've got a Politico reporter who can't even bother to get the names of the activists making vague statements. This is a case of poor reporting, IMO.
There were plenty of people in that room....just not him?
There was at least one camera in that room, maybe more, too. There's a full transcript out on the web that includes material that precedes and follows the video up on YT, too.

If only coal companies polluted groundwater (false, but an exact analog) why would you bother talking to fracking companies or chemical companies to solve groundwater pollution?

(135,425 posts)It's not about electoral politics and withholding an endorsement until someone jumps through the right hoop. It's not about anyone's favorite candidate. It's a call for concrete action. It's about a state of emergency. If your kids are dying at the hands of police, if it's your husband or wife, your father or mother, your friend, cousin, aunt, uncle...it is a priority issue.
This isn't "those other people, somewhere, over there..." This is about family and friends. And it can't wait any longer--it has to be addressed. Now is the time.

That's an inaccurate portrayal of the system, which has never had balance & was *designed* to disenfranchise Black folks. #HollupHillary
Hillary has also repeatedly called for more police & tougher prison sentences. #HollupHillary http://reason.com/blog/2014/12/05/hillary-clinton-response-eric-garner#.v4oydm:mMdg
#HollupHillary: HRC worked to reduce federal assistance to women & children living in poverty.
HRC lobbied to expand drug war & mass incarceration in ways that still impact black & brown ppl today. #HollupHillary
HRC's policies are far-reaching, & negatively affect Black & brown people OUTSIDE the US as well. #HollupHillary
In Dec 2014, HRC claimed our CJ system was "out of balance." #HollupHillary http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/hillary-clinton-takes-hard-truths-about-race-and-justice
