Related: About this forumIn other news: Bernie Sanders is still not a racist.
Despite efforts to paint him as such, the facts simply don't support the accusation.

Not the first time I have seen someone argue against themselves in back to back sentences.

(32,886 posts)Because that position is easier to attack. I.e., a strawman.

(7,393 posts)Haven't seen anyone else say it either. I think he's just clueless on issues that minorities face.

(53,035 posts)It's about the violent racism plaguing America. As long as people refuse to address that issue, they get in the way of finding solutions.
This continual effort to reduce a very serious problem to a straw man such as the one in your OP is completely offensive. All candidates are accountable to citizens, even if you happen to consider the issues they care about of lesser importance. I get that for many here that basic concept is alien, that you believe Sanders is too important to be subject to protest or criticism, particularly over something you clearly believe he shouldn't have to discuss. That entire notion runs counter to the idea of representative government and is profoundly antiegalitarian.
That you could possibly make that argument after all this time tells me you consider the issue too inconsequential to even pay attention to what those black activists have been saying. If you think this helps Sanders, you are badly mistaken. If you want Sanders to be considered a serious candidate, he has to face diverse constituencies and deal with serious questions. To insist he should not have to respond to some of the gravest problems facing this country indicates either that you don't think he stands a real chance of being president or you don't believe he has any responsibility to address the concerns of the citizens of this nation. Either explanation does him no favors.
People are being killed by police every single day, but you feel compelled to make it about Bernie being victimized. It's time to cut the crap. People are dying.

(37,364 posts)This reality stands in stark relief to the insistence that Sanders is a victim of something. It is a clear indicator to me that the persons making such claim do not understand the issues.

(30,481 posts)It's not about Sanders himself. There have been numerous posts cheering on the fact he resonates with small groups of conservatives and libertarians. Those people have access to message boards and show their support just like others do, they just happen to be people who resonate with him on economic justice alone. Clinton gets attacked for going for a broad base, Sanders lines up a talk to Liberty U and is roundly celebrated. The people who are "uncomfortable" with the topic of social justice are one of the groups he is going after who are being cheered. It's not Sanders, it's a small but very loud group being courted gleefully by his supporters.
On a positive note, Sanders back is strong enough that this pile of straw isn't going to break anything. Well, except a reputation or two. You might want to take your wasted energy here and go tell the racist calling Marissa a "house rat" to shut the fuck up.

(13,184 posts)Actually, I don't buy your claim at all. There are Sanders supposed who are plenty pissed off at the way he got ambushed in Seattle and who have been harshly critical of some BLM tactics. That doesn't make them racists.
This kind of crap is just a way to smear Sanders, and if you can't do that, you smear his supporters.
