2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe media framing of Bernie Sanders is beginning... Wall Street Journal makes Bernie seem arrogant
and rude.
Bernie is one of the best politicians we have when it comes to putting the media in their place, maybe even better than Barney Frank -- and that's high praise indeed!
But watch the actual video and then read the dismissive way the New York Times reports the encounter. I've written about the loaded language the media uses to report about Hillary Clinton, and we see the same thing in this piece:
When a gaggle of reporters corporate media in Sanders parlance mentioned Mrs. Clinton here, he snarled, Thats the sport you guys like, meaning their focus on the kind of political questions he disdains. When asked to reconcile his anti-establishment status with being a career politician, Mr. Sanders, who except for two years has held political office continually since 1981, glared at the young reporter who asked the question.
Career politician? he said to her with a disdainful laugh. Other questions.
And they've only just begun. (They've been doing it to Hillary Clinton for 20 years, and if you don't think that affects your perception, you're not paying attention.)
By the time they get through with him, Bernie Sanders will more closely resemble the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Because it's not about the truth, it's about the media's beloved Narrative.

They are coming after Bernie Sanders now....... His name will be mud when the MSM gets finished writing about him.

(30,439 posts)Hillary has dealt with the media's bullshit for a long time. Obama experienced it pretty quickly as well with Rev. Wright, Ayers, birtherism etc.
Bernie better get prepared.

(3,431 posts)beginning on. He will treat the media with the
respect that he thinks they deserve, and the
social media will correct what the M$M will
try to do.
I am far more worried about his safety, remembering
Bobby Kennedy.

(1,309 posts)If you support Hillary as I am sure you do, be honest. Lets have a discussion of the issues not some portrayal of your candidate as already having stood the test of Main Street Media and acting as if Bernie cannot do it. Hillary never really had such great positives and that is showing in the fact that less and less people trust her. But please tell me, do you like Bernie's hair?

John McCain and Barack Obama both appeared before the nation's newspaper editors yesterday. The putative Republican presidential nominee was given a box of doughnuts and a standing ovation. The likely Democratic nominee was likened to a terrorist.
At a luncheon for the editors hosted by the Associated Press, AP Chairman Dean Singleton quizzed Obama about whether he would send more troops to Afghanistan, where "Obama bin Laden is still at large?"
"I think that was Osama bin Laden," the candidate answered.
"If I did that, I'm so sorry!" Singleton said.
"This," Obama told the editors, is "part of the exercise that I've been going through over the last 15 months."
<...>
McCain's moderators, the AP's Ron Fournier and Liz Sidoti, greeted McCain with a box of Dunkin' Donuts. "We spend quite a bit of time with you on the back of the Straight Talk Express asking you questions, and what we've decided to do today was invite everyone else along on the ride," Sidoti explained. "We even brought you your favorite treat."
McCain opened the offering. "Oh, yes, with sprinkles!" he said.
Sidoti passed him a cup. "A little coffee with a little cream and a little sugar," she said.
<...>
McCain got a standing ovation -- an honor Obama did not receive when his turn came two hours later.

(2,427 posts)We are taking the power away from the MSM. Things get done on the interwebs now. When media is a two way street the people get to the truth much more often. When it is a one way street like TV or print the truth is harder to find.
Persevere my friends.

(19,326 posts)Bernie keeps bringing it back, quite skillfully & forcefully, to the issues.
Yes, they came at him with more 'gotcha' questions, but they never stick.
Yes,. the M$M has been going after Hillary for 20 years, but Bernie's been
doing this for 25 years, winning him over 70% of the vote in his most recent
campaign.

(19,089 posts)Bernie is going around the standard media channels, which is what had lead to his spectacular rise ... You can be sure he isn't popular because the media reported his every move ... They barely knew he existed ...
Bernie is going to win IN SPITE of the malignant MSM ... Call them on it and tell them they are lying ...... Brush it off and move forward ....

they haven't even started on Bernie yet. They will now that he's climbing in the polls.

(4,775 posts)rather than allowing the press to put the interaction into some pre-fab box of their own creation.
His laugh at the reporter's question was perhaps a little ruder than the situation called for, but it was an honest reflection of how Bernie feels about someone trying to put him into a "career politician" box when he has tirelessly worked for the people as an outsider coalitioning with the other representatives who are pushing monied agendas.
But he did such a great job in that interaction, in the end the whole place erupted in a loud cheer, it was awesome. And he schooled the reporter in exactly the right subject matter, which was that these are the issues to the American people, I am doing this to discuss those and make their case when nobody else would do it, and that's what I'm going to do (my paraphrase). If that's arrogance, we need more of it, not less.

(297,323 posts)I haven't been watching the US "media" for 20 years.
Oh, I started in 2000 but stopped in 2002 when I saw what a freaking goPropaganda machine they are.
No doubt they'll be doing it to BS too.. once they think they've brought down the front runner enough.
But, President Obama won in spite of their shite.. Hillary can too.

(1,309 posts)Stop your gloom. Hillary makes her own problems and Bernie does not. He looks good in the film. Quit trying to push Hillary's toughness. The email thing will destroy her. Why do you think Biden is in the wings. The billionaires are scared they will not be able to invest in a sympathetic democrat. Thanks for putting it on here again??

(12,712 posts)If they did not perceive Bernie as "insulting and rude" to their insulting and rude establishment, then Bernie would NOT be the candidate he is and he would not be getting my vote.
The CEOs, Media, Corporate executives, et al, have been and are treating the people in a politically and economically rude way and if we were in their club, we would get respect and favor.
So, let them react. I think Bernie can handle their response to waking up to this peaceful and powerful revolution. In fact, we can drink their reaction and savor it because it underscores a man who is sending America a reality check and it is in the mail.
