2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOk so then if they can possibly defeat and repeal the 14th ammendment...
and my children get married and have a baby...
is that baby now *not* a citizen?
Has anyone proposed the path to citizenship that baby would have to take?
Would the white rich guys have the same problem with their children/grandchildren?

(5,519 posts)I am talking about down the line... what would a person (any person) have to do to become a citizen if their birthright is taken away?
Would their parents' citizenship still transfer to that baby?

(5,519 posts)if the republics have any sort of follow-up plan.
It's like a partnership agreement- you want the partnership to succeed but you need to have a dissolution plan figured out, too.
I'm just wondering if anyone has heard what they plan the aftermath to be

(26,366 posts)citizenship, some people believe it is just necessary to pass legislation to clarify the 14th amendment in
this regard. For example in 1993 legislation was introduced (it subsequently died in committee) to clarify
the 14th amendment and remove birthright citizenship:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d103:S1351:
S.1351 Title: Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993
In the exercise of its powers under section 5 of the Fourteenth Article of Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the Congress has determined and hereby declares that any person born after the date of enactment of this title to a mother who is neither a citizen of the United States nor admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident, and which person is a national or citizen of another country of which either of his or her natural parents is a national or citizen, or is entitled upon application to become a national or citizen of such country, shall be considered as born subject to the jurisdiction of that foreign country and not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States within the meaning of section 1 of such Article and shall therefore not be a citizen of the United States or of any State solely by reason of physical presence within the United States at the moment of birth.

(36,693 posts)when was the last time a republican came out and attacked something and then had a plan ready to correct the thing they did not like??
Notice how the republicans say they support and love the Constitution and then turn around and list the things they do not like about it.............

(24,780 posts)And it will not happen.
but...
the Dems maybe need to expose what the R's plans would look like in the future.
There is much talk about this on the right (when they say just repeal it), and not much being said against it or
to explain what it would look like (that I have heard) from the left.
I think the voters should be more educated about this. Is this being said by anyone?
My fundie tea-relatives are over the moon with the suggestion that this "could happen"
but they would not like it if their children were born as "aliens".
But then they loved the wars, too.

(9,497 posts)The outright racism that has been growing in the last decade is scary. Do I believe they can do it, I would not bet against it.
Hillary should be happy, because of this the idea of not voting for her in the general is almost nil. And I am not a fan of hers but she isn't going to promote this line of thinking.
Or so I believe at this moment in time.
The thing is, that most of the public think it will solve the whole Mexicans taking the jobs, while there are a lot of Chinese anchor babies. We, a scared nation look to the least powerful and affluent immigrants while failing to see the monied and educated ones..

(24,780 posts)Hillary would never support repealing the 14th.
Regardless of whàt some here would have you believe.

(9,497 posts)I believe this is true.
The tenor of words against Latinos is pretty vile, though.
Thankfully, we have good candidates in Hillary, Bernie and Martin who believe in the humanity of all people.

(9,497 posts)It is interesting to see what has happened to Vancouver, BC after Hong Kong went back to China. A lot of money came in and bought cash. The same thing is happening in the Greater Seattle area. It is especially pronounced on the eastside and in one school district.
