2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGuess what, everyone? Hillary is running for president!!!!
Yes, really! Apparently some people are unaware, and have confusedly noticed her doing strange things like conducting polls, producing online campaign ads, and raising money.
And, look, I get it. If someone I knew started randomly polling people, asking for money, and making self-promotional videos, then sure, I'd think that was a little weird. And if I already hated that person like Taylor Swift hates Katy Perry, I might even take to the internet about it.
But in this case, it's not some kind of demonic ritual, it's just a presidential campaign.

(108,978 posts)Any Democrat who wants to be elected has to deal with that "whole raising money problem." Unlike the Rethug candidate, ours won't be relying on the Koch brothers and their 1 or 2 billion.

(10,721 posts)In fact, some of the largest "donors" give to both the Democratic and Republican candidates so as to hedge their bets.
For instance, here's a list of Obama's top donors in 2008: http://www.opensecrets.org/PRES08/contrib.php?cid=N00009638
Here's a list of McCain's top donors in 2008: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.php?cycle=2008&cid=n00006424

(10,721 posts)I was commenting on your Koch brothers comment, as if Democrats don't also get massive sums of money from despicable sources to whom they are then beholden once in office.
Hopefully people will click on the links in my last post, because I think many are flat-out ignorant of that information.

Do the math. It's not the same.

(10,721 posts)Like I said, I hope you and others will click on the links in my previous post. People seem quite ignorant of the fact that Dems get massive sums from the likes of Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, General Electric, Monsanto, George Soros, and so on. Your last reply is exhibit A.
As much as you may want to believe, it ain't all small donations from mom and pop. Sorry to burst that bubble.

(4,558 posts)One of so many examples of why this campaign is so much like Ron Paul's.. even if the candidates themself are significantly different.
The Ron Paul Revolution..
The Bernie Sanders Revolution..
'And then they make fun of you'

(36,392 posts)Sorry. Are we allowed to believe that spending hundreds of millions of dollars that were raised from billionaires and oligarchs is not our idea of a "president of the people"?

(7,003 posts)had made an anti-Bernie film, then surely SCOTUS would have ruled against them.
They would know how authentic he is and would naturally see that money isn't speech.
Because it was a Hillary Lannister film, then what was the harm really?
