2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDoes rmoney have a state tax problem?
Ok, he had to assert residency to become governor, so I presume his taxes are (now) consistent with legally being a resident of Massachusetts in the years before he ran.
Does he tax situation change if he actually *worked* in Massachusetts during those years?
Is there a state tax he (and/or Bain) should have paid? Unemployment insurance, perhaps? Would that be ironic?

(8,419 posts)in MA, he donated his money from the Olympics so he would have got a tax break on his Fed returns and likely have no taxes in UT.
Here is the deal though, it seems that a lot of corporate sponsors for the 2002 Olympics also became involved with Bain, so was he leveraging his position with the Olympics to drive business to Bain?
My guess, based upon Reid stating he didn't pay any taxes for years, is that he funneled a lot of the cash offshore, took small payments and offset them with the one million credit.

(52,253 posts)I'm thinking he had to be a resident to run for governor, so his taxes are consistent with that already.
The question is, did actually working in the state change anything as far as state ya Ed go?
Ok, he gave his salary to charity do he gets out of income taxes regardless. But perhaps he still should have paid some other tax? Is there a state unemployment fund, e.g.?

(8,419 posts)He was supposed to have six years of residence in MA to run, but did claim UT as primary residence in the time frame around the Olympics. Not sure about the specific states, but claimed he was still involved in MA because...yup, his involvement with Bain.
My guess is that in 2009 and 2010 he didn't claim MA as his residence but voted for Brown in the Special Election in Jan 2010. He release Fed returns for 2010 but no State returns.
Regardless this is going to be one tangled web.

(50,947 posts)The statement filing only had that he received at least $100k. It could be $250k $500k
Based on one reading today I believe from a 2007 article he did everything he could to maximize the benefit to Bain. He tried to have Staples as a sponsor but Office Depot beat them out. Another company was connected to one of his sons. I believe Marriott Hotels was also a sponsor and I believe also a Mormon commodity.

(8,419 posts)The filing stated over 100k!
Damn it, the media keeps reporting it as 100k and I fell into the trap. I saw the document and it stated simply Over $100,000.
I am on the receiving end of the spank below.
