May be over-reaching, but I read an article that was linked to on another post and a specific quote stood out:

“As we trade securities, all of the trading happens essentially with a handshake. … There’s lots of protections around it, but billions of dollars change hands every day just based on the ethics of the group—that people know that they can trust each other.”

This would explain a LOT in my opinion. If this were the case, then it would not only be devastating to Romney, but also to the Mormon Church.
