graphs that show media coverage disproportionately low for Bernie

http://usuncut.com/politics/5-graphs-that-show-how-much-the-media-is-covering-trump-and-how-little-theyre-covering-berni

I apologize if this has already been posted. Much more at link, including the graphs and the information that MSNBC has covered Trump more than any other outlet.

Bernie Sanders officially launched his presidential campaign a month before Donald Trump did, but TV networks have nonetheless covered Trump 6 times more than they covered Bernie in 2015. The two most popular networks covered Trump ten times as much as they cover Sanders.

The GDelt Project, which maintains a database containing over a quarter billion records of the world’s news media in over 100 countries, has now launched a 2016 presidential campaign tracker. GDelt’s tracker monitors mentions of candidates across 9 television networks — Al Jazeera America, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, Fox Business, Fox News, LinkTV, and MSNBC.

In each instance, networks devoted far more air time to Trump than to Bernie Sanders, even on days when Sanders broke record after record for campaign rally attendance in Madison, Wisconsin; Phoenix, Arizona; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon, and Los Angeles.

tracking exactly how the news is biased, and passing that info around to folks on social media, to show the hollow hypocrisy of it all, and expose the partisan agenda behind it.

I don’t think so, Andrea,” Sanders replied, bringing the discussion back to economic issues. “I think the American people want a government that represents all of us and not just Wall Street and a handful of very wealthy people.”

“Now, you have resisted attacking Hillary Clinton,” Mitchell observed. “Are you braced for the onslaught that could come your way from her?”

Again, Sanders steered her answer away from Clinton, instead saying, “We’re going to be attacked by Corporate America. When you take on the establishment, you anticipate those attacks.”

They cover Trump because he's always good for a controversial comments, and that draws an audience, which means they sell ads.

Yes, it would be lovely if we had the BBC to broadcast policy symposia, but we don't and we never have.

Besides, I keep being told by Sanders supporters that he doesn't NEED the mainstream media; everyone will flock to YouTube to watch his speeches and the sale will be made.

Was I misinformed?

Distraction from Bernie's very anti-corporate message. The less people hear the message the less likely they are to think along anti-corporate and anti-Wall Street lines. When people hear Bernie speak they are drawn to him-he's like a modern FDR-people get that there is something seriously wrong with our political process and the horrible effect the money of the rich and powerful are having on it (Citizens United).

Trump has taken his reality TV show and turned it into a reality TV Presidential Race show. The networks love his buffoonery, it plays well to his audience. It's shallow, and that will be the problem in the long run, but right now he's getting all the media time and people like Sanders, who actually have something to say, are pushed to the sidelines.

that's why they go to great lengths to get Bernie to attack Hillary Clinton on non-substantive issues.

They either ignore Bernie or try to turn the discussion back to Hillary.

They want to personalize the race and take the American Peoples' attention away from the real problems that confront them because that conflicts with the corporate media's self-serving interests.

9 Times Bernie Sanders Told The Media He's Not Going To Talk About Bulls**t Issues

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has made it clear that he has no love for the "corporate media."

The independent senator from Vermont, whose poll numbers keep creeping up on those of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, frequently criticizes reporters for being interested in him only if he personally attacks Clinton or other candidates. He reiterated this point to MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell on Monday, saying that his campaign isn't "against" anybody but for the middle class.

Sanders argues that the media have a responsibility to stop pushing "soap opera" politics and start focusing on the major issues facing the country, like income and wealth inequality, the influence of money in politics, climate change and racial justice.

Trump gets his speech played in its entirety on cable news. If you think Sanders is somehow benefiting from the media coverage, I'd have to disagree. But then Hillary Clinton supporters feel all the media is against them. I see Media Matters covers any slight aimed at Hillary Clinton, but say nothing when the media basically dismisses Sanders as a fringe candidate.
