2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumYou read it here first: Bernie will take PAC money
Oh yes he surely will. Naivete aside, it's a fact of life. The Sanders Campaign is NOT going to hang their hat on this issue. You should not either. If the Sanders Campaign prevails and Bernie is the nominee
They will take money from:
Wall Street- notably Morgan, but Goldman as well.
Banks- especially Citi
Credit Card companies like Capital One
Oil Companies- CITGO springs to mind
Monsanto, who bring you such good things
BP America
The Clean Coal Coalition
GE
and any other puppy killing father raping financial entity or PAC.
Please do not freak out when this happens. Accept it as a sad fact of life.
If Bernie is the nominee, he will take the money, oh yes he will.
Thank you , everyone

(13,685 posts)Tell them they can spend their money on their own ads.
It's a free country and the law says they can spend billions on ads.
As for advertising by Bernie, the word of mouth and independent social media that I, and millions more are working on will show that the M$M is a failure and a waste of money... this time. Finally.
The revolution will not be televised. Oh, the end results will be, and it will be like this: Damn, how'd that happen? Bernie got elected without spending a billion!
In other words, people like you will have become the media. Are you in, or out?

(13,685 posts)Let me repeat that so it is drilled into your head:
YOU ARE WRONG.
This idea that we Bernie supporters, who are sick and tired of the same old same old, want a republican in office, is just plain f'n wrong.
We think that Hillary will be beat by a republican. We think that Bernie can get votes from ALL Democrats, including maybe even you, and he can get independents and some republicans' votes.
I've been watching and participating in politics for over 30 years and Bernie is the BEST candidate I have ever seen run for Potus.
His stance that getting big money out of politics is something every one on DU should be wholly supportive of. Opposing the one candidate who can and will do that is just WRONG.
Like I said: YOU ARE WRONG.
Metric System
(6,048 posts)fight with a spoon. You boldly say I'm wrong, yet your post doesn't address how Sanders will advertise all over the country and take on well-funded Republican attacks while being severely and comparatively restricted financially. Sanders can't get big money out of politics and reverse Citizens United if he doesn't win the Presidency.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)Instead of flooding the airwaves with negative ads, this campaign will use the resources wisely with the best timed and most informative ads possible.
Do not sell the internet and the millennials who understand the internet the best. They are already making Bernie famous!
Too, people like me who have already talked to 30 or more individuals who had, at best, only heard of Bernie. That kind of word of mouth ads from millions of people like us will garner millions of votes.
Sanders will have lots of money, and a favorability rating that will overcome the big money spent on tv campaigns that people are sick of.

(39,215 posts)If I outright try to buy you are you going to see it as a good thing?
Not me - I am insulted. A lot of voters have dropped out of the system in the last 40+ years because of this. It was not such a big issue in 1960 when I voted for JFK or in 1972 when I worked for McGovern but it is a huge problem today.
This is one of the issues that is drawing people to Bernie the most. We are all tire of our so called principled candidates taking all the money they can get their greedy little paws on and then telling us they are going to represent us. Lies.
That list contains some of the worst offenders when it comes to the mess we are in. The only one with any value at all is CITCO and then only because they donate oil to charities here in the USA that help the poor with energy bills.
I do expect that if Bernie wins the nomination that he will take money from the Unions, environmental groups, groups like Emily's List that work for specific issues he supports and he may even take from a select few corporate PACS but I would guess that he will be very selective in who he works with.
Times have changed. When President Obama finally took money from PACS we were not yet aware of just how complicit the corporations and banksters were in the Great Recession that came just before the election. Today we better understand who and how the rich have been buying our elections.
To me the death knell for a politician is any sign that they are playing with the big boys. We have been had. And it needs to stop. NOW.

(7,865 posts)It will probably end up being Hillary/____ vs Bush/Walker as Trump will hit his ceiling and the establishment Republicans will hand him his hat.
A Clinton vs Bush election will reduce turn out considerably which will actually increase the odds of a Republican victory. I figure I should point out that statistical fact since the OP seemed hellbent on his pragmatic facts. The Difference is that Bernie never has had to take SuperPac money and is campaigning against it so he can make that choice. The statistics of voting are a bit more difficult.

(9,497 posts)The H supporters are using this kind of tactic instead of wondering how H is different on this issue from repubs. I would love the same kind of concern in regards to YOUR candidate that you seem to give ours.
If he does take the money, and I have no use for your seer abilities, we will all handle it in our own individual ways. And I am positive that not one member of the H group will actually give a sh*t how we are personally taking it.
So why don't you use your outrage on what is happening in this present moment. You know, the reality that some of you like to tout.

His beef is with big money from those very corporations you just mentioned. I don't think it would bother him to take money from the people he wants to represent: those of us who aren't part of those corporate group.

(1,771 posts)Its a free country, he said.
This is not the first time the Sanders campaign has faced this irony.
In May, the Burlington Free Press reported that multiple super PACs had been formed to support Sanders, including one hybrid PAC named Bet on Bernie, whose chairman Cary Peterson said he intended to raise $50 million.
Sanders said he had not sanctioned any super PAC and an campaign advisor reportedly said of Peterson: I dont even know who this guy is.
