Regarding the Piers Morgan interview of Justice Scalia ...

I'm watching the rerun ...

Where was the interview held?

Looks like a HUGE room - probably in the Supreme Court building?

And the co-author guy is there too.

I think that since Scalia is doing the interview to PUSH HIS BOOK for profit, the interview shouldn't have been done in a TAXPAYER FUNDED building!

Remember all the fuss a year or so ago when President Obama filmed a video from the 'White House residence' and sent it out in an email with a 'Donate Button'? The Republicans had a fit. But they had no ground to stand on because it was filmed in one of the rooms in the 'private residence' part of the White House and therefore he was allowed to do so.

Hmmm.

it was probably Justice Thomas that Roberts fought with re: ACA/ObamaCare.

Thomas' wife Ginnie has that anti-ObamaCare group/PAC that she is the head of/founded.

I think that it was Thomas that leaked to that reporter - can't remember her name at the moment.

Let's face it many other public figures have done tv interviews, with or without a book at play, in various official environments. There is definitely something to be said for an "environmental impression" on the audience. By that I mean if you see someone sitting in a very executive or judicial environment with all the trappings around them there is likely a little bump in the credibility of the individual because of the environment.

I'm less concerned about the environment and more concerned about the content and tone. What does it reveal about what is supposed to be a non-partisan arbiter of justice? Tony and Thomas are two peas in a pod - hyper partisans that will use their positions to advance (or deny) causes to which they are politically connected.

scalia's certainly big on breaching court tradition and decorum, sure.

but it's not the same as violating elections/campaign laws.

besides, republicans, who are certainly big on violating elections/campaign laws, are always looking for minor infractions on the part of democrats. i think it was al gore who they harped on for making a campaign-related phone call from the white house instead of running across the street....

I'm a state employee and I'm not supposed to conduct any private business at work or using their facilities without paying for use of facilities. One of my colleagues got in deep trouble for doing that.
