2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI bit the bullet and purchased my first presidential bumper sticker
I am 50 years old and have never been compelled to place a presidential bumper sticker on any of my vehicles during my 30 years of having a car on which to place one. One of the reasons is that I live in New York and a Democrat has always won this state in the race for president, so why bother? And, until now, I have never been inspired enough by any candidate in the Democratic primary race to promote him/her on my car. However, today I bought a Bernie Sanders bumper sticker.
This was no small feat. Presently, I am living with my elderly parents who are avid Hillary supporters. They know and accept me for being gay, but I am scared to "come out of the closet" when it comes to supporting Bernie. And I really have nothing against Hillary. True, she has some questionable donors, but so did Obama and he did okay during his time. BUT this country needs to do something about the 1% and Wall Street. I just read a story where the Justice Department will go after Wall Street NEXT time they screw up, WTF? NEXT TIME? Will Hillary's hands be as tied based on her donor base too? I may be one of the millions of Americans wishing on "unicorns and rainbows" (or however that pejorative goes), but we have to start somewhere. I hope we keep this movement going even if Bernie doesn't make it to where we so desperately wish him to be: in the White House. Nevertheless, I am ready to join my fellow supporters of Bernie to do what I can to promote, not just him, but the righteous ideals he advocates.

(8,812 posts)Hate to sound like an old codger, but there was a time -- not all that long ago -- when bumper stickers were free.
That said, in 1934, California gubernatorial candidate Upton Sinclair, charged admission to his rallies. An avowed socialist turned Democrat, he earned the party's nomination. It was only after an extraordinary alliance of the Golden State's corporate interests that his insurgent campaign was squashed.

(2,427 posts)My Dad was crazy about any car he owned. They were always immaculate and a bumper sticker? da fuck? No way, no how. I slapped stickers all over my first car - I don't think he approved but he never sweated me over it either. I haven't had a sticker on any car I've owned since - and I can't tell you why, respect maybe? It's weird how that stuff works.
I do have Sanders stickers though - and I've put them to good use!
Cheers!

(2,427 posts)I have the four that they mailed out if you donated - I've since applied 3 (on things other than my car) and keep one around for prop photos with my cats!
Edit - just added him to my sig line instead!

(1,524 posts)roughly when did you get them? I still haven't gotten mine... wondering if I should contact them (not that I'm going to put them on the car, but still)

(2,427 posts)I think I made my first donation in early June, I did have to reply to the email that was sent that I wanted them though. They arrived about 3 weeks later? I hope that is helpful.
Cheers!
