2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm still wavering between HRC and Sanders.
I've pretty well discounted Joe, although I think the world of him. I just can't see him concentrating on POTUS domestic and world
, 100 %. He needs time to suffer his loss.

Peace to you.
tavernier
(12,389 posts)would be at the top. There will always be issues with equal rights and civil rights and women's rights, etc. as it has been from the dawn of civilization, and there will always be the rich and the poor; but someday OUR generation will be blamed by our children's children, when the earth is no longer habitable, or when our country has become the actual Escape From New York film plot, just one big shooting range.
Uncle Joe
(58,364 posts)Might I suggest another, the corruptive influence of unlimited money in politics will make progress on those and many other important issues much harder to make progress on.
Peace to you, tavernier with whatever you decide.

(145,289 posts)The next POTUS will get to nominate three or four SCOTUS justices and control the direction of the SCOTUS for a generation. This chart is great on this issue http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/perry-identifies-the-top-issue-the-2016-race?cid=eml_mra_20150511

(54,397 posts)That's one reason I'm not so bothered if it's Hillary or Bernie. Bernie will be a harder sell to the swing voters, but unless they nominate Jeb and have no debates (and there WILL be debates), no one in the current Republican roster stands a chance of inspiring anyone but the robotic straight-R voters anyway.

(54,397 posts)It said I jived 95% with Bernie, 90% with Hillary, 85% with Joe Biden, 76% with O'Malley
Predictable, in other words, and not enough to sway me one way or the other.

(130,929 posts)Martin O'Malley:
1. Ended death penalty in Maryland
2. Prevented fracking in Maryland and put regulations in the way to prevent next GOP Gov Hogan fom easily allowing fracking.
3. Provided health insurance for 380,000
4. Reduced infant mortality to an all time low.
5. Provided meals to thousands of hungry children and moved toward a goal for eradicating childhood hunger.
6. Enacted a $10.10 living wage and a $11. minimum wage for State workers.
7. Supporter the Dream Act

Mother Jones magazine called him the best candidate on environmental issues.

(12,655 posts)tell us what you really think
but seriously, its an impressive list.
i would love to see a vigorous contest between om and sanders.
i would be happy with either winning.
elleng
(130,929 posts)almost said something harsh.
It IS an impressive list, and bugs the hell out of me that more people, ESPECIALLY DUers, don't recognize it.
I'm more interested in a vigorous contest between OM and hrc, as true issues between OM and Sanders are nil, I suspect.
restorefreedom
(12,655 posts)om and or sanders v hrc, but i am kinda hoping her campaign will end early enough to see some real discussion between om and sanders, and maybe chafee as well
i know, wishful thinking about hrc bowing out, but hey i guess i am a dreamer....
elleng
(130,929 posts)and I thought I was, given my record with presidential campaigns.
IF what you suggest occurs, I'm SURE there will be plenty of real discussions between OM and Sanders, and Chafee, and we the people will decide OM/Sanders, or vice versa, should be our ticket!
restorefreedom
(12,655 posts)in either direction!
fwiw, i think chafee could be a good cabinet member or justice
gonna have happy dreams now about s/Om Om/s bumper stickers.....

I think too many people focus on rhetoric. I'm most interested in who can accomplish good results.

(11,833 posts)O'Malley will highlight his executive experience & accomplishments.
elleng
(130,929 posts)and it's also why DNC/HRC want to limit debates: Can't allow/promote the 'competition.'
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)It pisses me off that they are not only limiting the debates, they're preventing other debates too by saying if you participate in any other debate you can't participate in the dnc debate. That's bullshit. O'Malley is correct to criticize it.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)One, he needs the love.
Two, you get to ignore the DU civil war someone apparently decided we're having. be all like "hatever, I'm for the metric system guy" and just leave everyone gawping.
Third, you get to be all hipster. "I support Lincoln Chaffee... *pushes up glasses* You've probably never heard of him."
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)I'm going hip hop on that one.
But I support your hipster move Scootaloo.

(23,418 posts)I think that at this time 8 years ago, I supported Obama. I see no need to take commit until I vote!
SouthernProgressive
(1,810 posts)I'm basing my vote on who I feel will best build off Obamas accomplishments. I actually think that would be O'Malley first but something is simply missing in his campaign. Love the guy. Others mileage will vary. lol.
elleng
(130,929 posts)and add many of his own. What's missing in his campaign? DEBATES! LOOK and LISTEN to him. This is about MUCH more than debates: http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/32760-martin-o-malley-slams-democratic-national-committee-for-rigging-debates
SouthernProgressive
(1,810 posts)There is much more to it than that. From what I have seen, O'Malley is going to thrive in the debates. I think it's going to be big for him. But currently it is bigger than just a debate issue. I think some of it is the media. They just don't care about appropriate coverage. And until recently, he has been doing a lot of things that simply don't garner media coverage. I can make a very strong argument that he would by far be the best person to build off the success of Obama. I do think he is such a stable person and is such a policy guy that he could become one of the most influential VP's in history. Too early for that talk as he is extremely qualified to be running for president.
elleng
(130,929 posts)that not only doesn't care about appropriate coverage, imo, but deliberately neglects him. At whose instigation?
He would be a great VP, I think with Sanders, NOT hrc (please pardon me for this, too many substantive differences,) as well as a great POTUS.
