Related: About this forumBernie Sanders: ‘I Am Delighted’ By Jeremy Corbyn’s Victory
We need leadership in every country in the world which tells the billionaire class that they cannot have it all."U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) hailed the Friday election of Jeremy Corbyn to the leadership of the United Kingdoms Labour Party as a promising development in the global fight against inequality.
"At a time of mass income and wealth inequality throughout the world, I am delighted to see that the British Labour Party has elected Jeremy Corbyn as its new leader," Sanders, a Democratic presidential candidate, said in a statement emailed to The Huffington Post Saturday. "We need leadership in every country in the world which tells the billionaire class that they cannot have it all. We need economies that work for working families, not just the people on top."
Sanders appreciation of Corbyn is mutual. A week before his victory, Corbyn said he was following Sanders campaign with "great interest."

...... people have sharing images of Corbyn being taken away by police at an anti-Apartheid protest in the 1980s and comparing them to those of David Cameron in his days as a member of the Bullingdon Club while at Oxford University.

Updated to add this interesting observation from Digby:
Within hours of victory, more conservative Labour members refused to serve in a shadow cabinet under Corbyn.
One had already described a prospective Corbyn win as "a disaster for the party." He's been accused by rivals of trying to "turn back the clock." The "left-of-centre" New Statesman warned that a tilt towards the Corbyn wing of the party would consign Labour to "permanent minority status." Tony Blair (now there's the voice of authority) argued against Corbynistas and, essentially, for more centrism.
Nigel Green of the deVere Group, slammed Corbyn's tax and economic policies as "disastrous" for business:
Mr Corbyn seems so far removed from reality that he is unwilling or unable to accept that if you significantly increase taxes and disincentivise work and investment, people will change their behaviours.
Yet in Old England, Corbyn's policies seem to have wide support among voters. Go figure.
If Bernie Sanders' political insurgency continues to grow, expect to hear more of the same, and a prediction that unless Democrats support more center-left policies, America faces doom. Doom, I tell you.

(2,383 posts)If he were to have an equivalent in the U.S., it'd be Lyndon LaRouche. He spouts absolute nonsense- hates the NATO, wants to give Argentina the Falklands (no matter what the islanders themselves say), wants to reunify Ireland (no matter what the NI people say), is friends with IRA, wants to support Russia, has attended a speech by a holocaust denier, has counted Hamas/Hezbollah people as his friends, the list goes on.
He's an idiot, plain and simple. He's so far to the left he makes Sanders look like a centrist Tory.

(28,627 posts)Yes they should give the Falklands back from British imperialism. He doesn't directly support Russia. He may know people in the IRA a lot of British politicians do. He is not that left wing really. I wonder about NATO too but I don't hate it. I think it is refreshing to have different views from the conservatives - like many of the Labour Party. If he can get a middle east peace deal - great!

(2,383 posts)You really don't know the history of the Falklands (hint: the native Falklanders have always been British). Not to mention they want nothing to do with Argentina and has always consistently voted to remain British. Corbyn doesn't seem to care about the natives' opinion at all.
Btw, as of this post, Corbyn has appointed a pro-IRA sympathiser as shadow chancellor. I have NI roots, am a lapsed Catholic, my relatives (both Protestant and catholic) were murdered by the IRA and I find this appointment absolutely disgusting.

(76 posts)The leadership election was a small part of UK electorate, let alone metropolitan London electorate.
A Corbyn led Labour party would be a disaster for Labour, for progressive legislation, for a strong party in UK General Elections in 2019 or 2020.. Corbyn isnt far left, he is delusional. From EU membership, His stance and support for the IRA, and many other things..

a) Andy Burnham
b) Yvette Cooper

(2,383 posts)If he wanted the position, he should be able to face Cameron or the press. So far, he deferred the initial interview with Andrew Marr to Tom Watson. I'm hearing murmurs that he'd much rather give the PMQs to his deputy or other shadow cabinet members.
I almost hate saying this but I'm very glad David Cameron is rational enough and is the PM.

(76 posts)Corbyns support for the IRA, when the IRA was still running a terrorist campaign in Northern Ireland is not a sign of a good politician. Corbyn invited Gerry Adams to Parliament in 1985 two weeks after the Brighton Bombings.
His friendliness or willing to talk to Hamas and Hezbollah, on the grounds on an open dialogue would be welcome, if he didnt state some pretty hard views on Israel, like charging them with War Crimes, and supporting a Parliamentary Inquiry of Jewish Lobbying in HM Government actions. Corbyn was pissed about the deportation of one certain Raed Salah, who has stated many crazy and outrageous things..
Many of his policies views, from EU membership, Withdrawing from NATO, Syrian non intervention plays into one persons hands: Vladimir Putin. Russia would love non intervention from NATO and EU in Syria, given they are trying to prop up the Assad Regime.
He made a speech against NATO intervention in Libya, but the speech came out more as a Pro Qaddafi speech, than a bad NATO Intervention speech. The guy is cagey to put it mildly. My big problem is not that Corbyn is a leftist, it is that he is delusional..
