2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo when does Bernie get declared the new front-runner?
He's beating Hillary in New Hampshire. He's beating Hillary in Iowa. She's still well ahead in the nationwide polls and the southern early primary states but he's starting to rise there as well.
So is it
1. when he passes her in nationwide polling.
2. When and/or if he beats her in NH and IA
3. Never, the media will never admit it.
4. Right before some damaging information, or embarrassing moment is released that takes him down.

(17,064 posts)When #s 1&2 occur, Hillary will be called the 'former' front runner, and Bernie 'the challenger'.

(1,810 posts)By your own admission he is only polling ahead in two of fifty states, and behind in national polls. You have just described a situation where his support is almost unnoticeable and you are wondering when he gets to be called a frontrunner?
1 Sure
2 You do know how many states are in the union?
3 Admit that he is extremely far behind?
4 From your lips.....
As I have said, the one big positive of Sanders is that he is bringing a lot of new people into the party. A small percentage of them will stick with us.

(135,425 posts)All of those things align beautifully with the state he represents, Vermont, which is also small, rural, predominantly white and gunny.
There's nothing inherently "wrong" with these factors, but they are what they are.
You are going to find a lot of fans of Luciano Pavarotti at the Opera Convention; fewer at the Heavy Metal one.
It just is what it is.

(146,329 posts)He's not the frontrunner. If he were, they'd call him that. He is ahead in two states, according to some polls which include Joe Biden, who is not even a candidate, and may never be. Those are the only places where he is leading. That's not being a frontrunner. That's being a challenger, which is what he is being called, and accurately so.
