Ed Schultz: Is It Too Late to Stop the TPP?

Bernie Sanders:

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a disastrous trade agreement designed to protect the interests of the largest multi-national corporations at the expense of workers, consumers, the environment and the foundations of American democracy. It will also negatively impact some of the poorest people in the world.

Hillary Clinton:

After first dodging the issue, on Sunday in Iowa, Clinton said that "the President should listen to and work with his allies in Congress, starting with (House Minority Leader) Nancy Pelosi, who have expressed their concerns about the impact that a weak agreement would have on our workers, to make sure we get the best, strongest deal possible. And if we don't get it, there should be no deal."

Clinton said, "there are some specifics in there that could and should be changed. So I am hoping that's what happens now -- let's take the lemons and turn it into lemonade."

with it but seems to have hope that it will all magically be okay. Bernie speaks to the reality of what happens in these trade agreements.

3. Regarding TPP, Sanders is speaking to people who think we can return to the good-ole-days.

When I say I like Sanders views on a number of issues, TPP is not one of them.

Nor do I like the way he is trying to fool people who won't think long-term on this issue and what it means to our country. I agree strongly with him regarding the need to address income/wealth inequality; but, negatively impacting our country's future in a global economy is not the way to do it.

But we already knew that, didn't we? Tell us again how further enriching the wealthy and cementing their control will benefit the rest of us?

by a lousy trade agreement.

NAFTA and the other corporate trade agreements have just been a boon for the U.S. (sarcasm intended).

It's the corporate hacks that want to fool people.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

7. There wasn't a huge loss of jobs before, and there won't be this time.

Certain types of jobs might have to transition in the long run, but that has been going on every since buggy whip manufacturing hit the skids.

Personally, I'm fine with corporations making money, as long as they get taxed to hell and pay people fairly. I also think we need to share in growing economies worldwide. Isolating ourselves to preserve "buggy whip" type jobs ain't gonna help.
