Clinton: Shutdown over Planned Parenthood 'just wrong'

Hillary Clinton on Thursday criticized the calls from some Republicans to shut down the government over controversial Planned Parenthood videos, casting the tactic as misguided and partisan.

“I would hope that the Republicans, particularly the Republicans in the House led by Speaker Boehner would not put out country and our economy in peril pursuing some kind of emotionally, politically-charged, partisan attack on Planned Parenthood to shut our government down," she said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

Clinton added that there should be "no argument" that Planned Parenthood provides important health care needs including cancer screenings and HIV tests, and that the GOP politicians that want to defund it want to "turn the clock back" on abortion rights.

"We ought to be very clear that Planned has served to provide health care, necessary health care for millions of women and I think it deserves not only our support by the continuing funding from the federal government," she said.

Clinton's comments came in response to a passionate plea from GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, who called on Democrats — and Clinton specifically — to watch the controversial Planned Parenthood tapes leaked over the past few weeks and respond by cutting off funding for the group entirely.

House Republican leaders met with the caucus to show members polling data that suggests the party would be blamed for a government shutdown in the hopes of quelling those calls.

The interview marked the first live interview by Clinton on the campaign trail ....
