2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLet's try this a different way. If Biden jumps in, would you consider changing your SECOND choice?
For the Democratic nominee, I mean (ran out of subject line space).
Standard caveat of "Ultimately, I will support the Democratic nominee" yadda, yadda yadda.
I am a Clinton supporter and will remain one. However, if she did drop out of the race then, yes, Biden would be my second choice if he entered.

(9,958 posts)...I would vote for him in the GE, though. Bernie & Hillary are great second choices for each other!

(20,709 posts)the GE, then he would be my first choice. I just don't see him as strong as Hillary at the top of the ticket. But he's still a good choice.

(14,255 posts)And then there is Anita Hill.
Honestly, I am not going to even think about what I will do if the nominee is not Bernie. None of the other candidates are in any way like him. IMO and all that. The other candidates, again IMO, will just perpetuate the crap we have now. No matter how experienced they are at doing just that.
From conversations with my grandson, i do not believe the newly energized younger people will switch their votes or enthusiasm to another candidate. They do not buy into the political kabuki theater. It has not served them well.

(79 posts)a republican president definitely will not serve them well. in fact, a republican president appointing supreme court judges will set this country back two or three generations. think before you take your ball and go home.

(4,836 posts)Biden will get his foot caught in mouth, and further he'd have to address his Anita Hill issue.

(23,664 posts)Biden, meh. It's quite obvious that the party mucky mucks are only pushing him because they are scared shitless that Clinton will implode. He doesn't really want the job, plus he has a lot of the same baggage that Clinton has - Iraq war, Patriot Act, etc. Plus one big item she doesn't have - Clarence Thomas.
If the party is dumb enough to nominate him, I will reluctantly vote for him. But I hope they don't.

(58,785 posts)Would prefer trying to draft a firm Al Gore to a cuddly but squishy Uncle Joe.
Lawrence Lessig would be my second if Elizabeth Warren were VEEP, but probably not too likely to happen.
Linc Chafee and Jim Webb are not on my list, and I mention them just to say so.
Looking at this, fortunately, we do have a strong candidate in HRC. She's not going anywhere, so I feel pretty good about that. Given what we face, I'm feeling downright grateful that we have a candidate so well prepared.

(16,685 posts)Biden brings absolutely nothing that my second choice (Hillary...very distant 2nd by the way) doesn't already have.
Bernie all the way.

I like Biden, but O'Malley is my first choice followed by Bernie then Clinton. Joe needs to retire and be with his family.

(22,308 posts)I am issues driven. Ruling out Biden before he even begins to run seems foolish to me.
I don't think he can convince me to switch my support from Bernie, but I am open to the possibility.
djean111
(14,255 posts)Biden. he is a great friend to wall Street and the banks. Warren has called him out on that. What he says now, to me, is not relevant, given his record.

(22,308 posts)but I am open minded to the possibility.
That is where I am, that is where I will be for the foreseeable future.
He may not even run, so this whole discussion may be meaningless.

(1,884 posts)There is no second choice. Bernie is the only choice we have this time around. All the rest are various levels of status quo, and most of us know where that is taking us.

Hillary isn't really an option, as any informed ethical voter recognizes.

(63,912 posts)I support Sanders and will vote for him in our state's primary. If Bernie doesn't make it, I will look again at Biden. If he get Warren to sign on for VP, I could support that. I do confess that Beau's funeral made me think of Biden in a new way. It really affected me...

(2,472 posts)Biden is too much an inside the beltway candidate. He's the media's choice znd would be the media's designated anti-Clinton.
Further, while Biden is everybody's favorite "nice guy", he has far to close ties with the financial industry. He worked hard to make the bankruptcy bill even more punitive than it was.

(57,349 posts)I would probably vote for someone who says abortion is always wrong in the GE if I had to.
Right now, I rank the candidates this way:
1. Sanders
2. O'Malley
3. All the rest including Clinton.
If Biden jumps in, my rankings will be:
1. Sanders
2. O'Malley
3. All the rest including Clinton and Biden.
