Obama Camp: Romney Didn’t Pass The ‘Commander-In-Chief Test’ Abroad

July 31, 2012, 3:02 PM

Now that Mitt Romney is on the way back from his weeklong trip overseas, the Obama campaign is moving to slam his performance — which included rows with both British and Palestinian leaders — as un-presidential.

“He both offended our closest ally and triggered a troubling reaction in the most sensitive region in the world,” Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs said in a call with reporters. “He certainly didnt prove to anyone that he passed the commander-in-chief test.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron and London mayor Boris Johnson both condemned Romney’s comments in London last week suggesting that the United Kingdom may have been unprepared for the Olympics. On Monday, Romney drew angry rebukes from Palestinian officials after suggesting in Jerusalem that Israelis were more prosperous than Palestinians economically thanks in part to “culture” and “providence.” Romney has claimed he was misinterpreted.

Colin Kahl, a former defense official, said on the call that Romney’s Olympics gaffe was disturbing in that it was so easily avoidable.

“If Romney can’t handle our special relationship with the British on the eve of the Olympic games, what’s going to happen when he has to deal with our enemies?” he asked. “It’s not like Romney struck out against a major league pitcher, he struck out playing tee ball.”

is "tee ball" compared to visiting our ally when, say, war is afoot.
Had nothing to do with the British, just the situation surrounding the visit.

If Romney screws up on the 'easy' stuff he won't be able to handle the 'hard' stuff

Think what Kahl was saying is romney's "Foreign Relations Tour" was akin to tee-ball in that no one was even going to throw him a pitch. They were going to allow him to tee up and tee off on whatever he chose to swing at.

Which really makes his "Tour", worse than his trips to fox where the issue balls are, at least, thrown ... though under-hand and softly, over the middle of the plate.

Like being invited to stay at your rich friend's vacation house for the weekend, and accidentally poisoning their koi pond, starting a feud with the neighbors, spilling grape juice on the antique table cloth, then burning down the house by forgetting to turn off the wall heater in the bathroom.

Like that.

“It’s not like Romney struck out against a major league pitcher, he struck out playing tee ball.”

Batting next Right Fielder, Ryan Williams ...

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams defended the candidate’s foreign policy experience in a statement responding to the call.

“Mitt Romney will be a president who unapologetically stands up for America and the enduring values of freedom,” Williams said.

Ball One ...

“President Obama has weakened America’s position in the world

I must have missed all the other nation's pulling away from the U.S. and its policies in the Arab Spring/Summer States ... even Iran, Russia and China are merely agreeing to disagree, without cross the oppositional line.

A swing and a miss ... Strike One!

and frayed relationships with our closest allies

I must have missed the commentary from the UK and France and Germany critical of President Obama. Rather, I see their leaders and citizens playing high praise.

A swing and a miss ... Strike Two!

- all while earning effusive praise from the likes of Hugo Chavez. Governor Romney has laid out a foreign policy that will strengthen our interests, ensure our security, and let our friends know they have a partner in the White House.”

It's a bad thing for avowed enemies of the U.S. to soften their position? It would seem that's the point of diplomatic relations ... to make fewer enemies in the world.

Strike Three ... End of the inning!

What the heck was he doing over there? He showed all his arrogance. Did he just go over there to insult people and cause another war? Maybe the fund raiser was the reason or maybe he was covering up more of his money? Who knows? He is definitely not showing himself to be Presidential material. But, who cares in the Obama camp? We have our Prez.!

It is so nice to be an Obama supporter and watch this guy screw himself. We didn't even have to make an effort. He deserves a medal for his performance. Can we give him a medal with the picture of an elephant (trunk in mouth)?
