Mediaite: David Brock Admits Hillary Will Likely Flip-Flop Some More
Clinton coordinator and Media Matters founder David Brock said on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews that he had no problem with Hillary Clinton flip-flopping on certain issues, and that “as the campaign goes on,” she was going to continue to change her positions.
“I think as the campaign goes on, there are going to be some issues where maybe she had not taken a stand before, and maybe she even comes out and says something that is in disagreement with what she said a few years ago,” Brock replied
“You think that’s okay?” Wagner asked.
“That is all going to be possible in a campaign, sure,” Brock replied. “So she evaluated this issue and took her time. She came up with a decision that I think will show her to be what I believe is the real progressive champion in the race.”
In fairness to Mr. Brock, he did not accept the use of the term flip-flop. This is sort of a tricky situation. Politicians should be allowed to change their views on topics. The question is telling the difference between election year posturing vs. actually changing a position.
On the topic of TPP specifically, Mrs. Clinton
has chosen very precise language to express her opposition:
"I have said from the very beginning that we had to have a trade agreement that would create good American jobs, raise wages and advance our national security and I still believe that is the high bar we have to meet," Clinton said.
She added: "I don't believe it's going to meet the high bar I have set."
This is very much not a statement of opposition to free trade, just the current version of a specific treaty. I welcome this statement, but it's not reassuring as to how she would act in office with regard to trade policy.
