2016 Postmortem

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/h-a-goodman/elizabeth-warren-would-ma_b_8268614.htmlThe 2008 Wall Street crash cost Americans $12.8 trillion and resulted in Federal Reserve bailout commitments of over $29 trillion. Only Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are addressing the structural issues that caused this debacle. They've advocated breaking up the banks and reinstating a Glass-Steagall Act to address the main issues leading to America's growing wealth gap and inequality. Trump, Clinton, and everyone else in 2016 talk about these issues, but only Warren and Sanders are willing to actually do anything about them.
Assuming that polling trajectory remains constant and the FBI's investigation of Clinton's server continues throughout the primaries, only Bernie Sanders will be capable of beating a Republican on Election Day. Also, there are ten reasons why Democratic superdelegates will choose Sanders over Clinton, illustrating why the Vermont Senator is the real frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.
Therefore, in the interest of breaking a vapid paradigm of thought (stating Bernie can't win) proven by recent events to be obsolete, let's simply address the most likely scenario in 2016. When Bernie Sanders wins the Democratic nomination, picking Elizabeth Warren as his Vice President can ensure that all the momentum he's generated will continue into the general election. After all, in many ways, Elizabeth Warren paved the way for Bernie Sanders.
Before Sanders drew hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic supporters to events and before the Vermont Senator surpassed Clinton in Iowa and New Hampshire polls, it was Warren who lit the match. In 2014, Quinnipiac University stated "little known Elizabeth Warren generates the most heat" in terms of favorability within the Democratic Party. Also, it was her voice on a national stage battling President Obama over an omnibus bill that Citigroup lobbyists "literally wrote." Unlike career politicians who'd rather cater to Wall Street than feel its wrath, Warren caused enough of a stir that investment banks threatened to withhold donations to Senate Democrats.

(22,271 posts)I LOVE Elizabeth Warrant but two candidates from the same part of the country is a really stupid move. Barbara Lee would be perfect. She's from the Left Coast, she's got good, solid, progressive credentials, she's a female and she's African-American. Would that be cool or what? A Jewish male as president and an African-American female as V.P. Talk about breaking ground!

(14,881 posts)as mentioned below, she can fight quite well from the Senate.
Lee sounds like an interesting pick...hmmm

(9,497 posts)and probably would be leading right now. She doesn't want Presidency now, why not? She must want to stay where she is, because VP isn't really a step up. It would be a stupid waiting period for something she can still choose to have now.

(26,549 posts)Making her VP essentially neuters her ability to do anything.
Keep her in the Senate where she can keep fighting.

(33,497 posts)1) She is in her first term as a Senator and is doing a great job and has influence and we don't need to take another Dem out of the Senate especially in a state with a GOP Governor. Let her continue to be an influential Senator.
2) She would be 67 next year and Bernie is in his 70's--he needs a younger VP (IMHO).
3) He is from Vermont a heavily Democratic state and she is from Massachusetts--same region and states ANY democrat will carry (even Hillary).
In my opinion if Bernie were the Democratic nominee he should select a progressive who is younger and has more appeal to groups where he may not be as popular--working class, latinos and African-Americans.

(23,156 posts)because of her absolute integrity, especially on various fiscal matters.
But the idea that the candidates need to be from different parts of the country is so very strong, that I doubt it will change this time around.
However, I am always astonished that the conventional wisdom is that people who wouldn't vote for the President, the person at the top of the ticket, will now for him rather than the other guy, just because of the VP pick. For what my personal opinion is worth, the VP choice would NEVER make me switch allegiance. The closest to it affecting my vote was when Gore made the very disastrous choice of Joe Lieberman as his running mate. I was completely disgusted with that choice, but it still didn't send me off to vote for the Republican who was running, or even some wasted vote third party candidate.

(15,435 posts)should Bernie become POTUS, he will need people like Elizabeth Warren in the Senate. He will need every like minded Congress Critter to get things done! This country can no longer keep going the way we are. Stalemate after stalemate!
"We The People" are going to have to work extra hard to get people elected who are willing to WORK TOGETHER, something we haven't had in a very, very long time!
Elizabeth Warren is a firebrand in the Senate and stands up for the people and not Wall Street. Sick of the Chuck Schumer, etc. types who keep me scratching my head! Then of course there's the DARLING in the House... Debbie Wasserman-Schultz who has her own agenda and IMO is working VERY HARD to keep people like Bernie from even being heard!
ENOUGH, Warren may not always vote for what we Sanders supporters want, but I'm willing to bet she will fight hard for the working class much more than what we have now!

(631 posts)Not another "let's draft Elizabeth Warren!" thing?
Come on, this is getting embarrassing. Look, I like her. She's doing OK, OK? And I believe she's a Democrat even though she was a Republican 20 years ago. But she's not the messiah. She didn't ride into DC on her ass to save us all. Did she? OK, maybe she did, but how many times does she have to say no? And yes, I know she's a woman, and all that, and a Cherokee Indian if she says so, but, but...hell! She just doesn't look like a Native American to me!

Sen. Warren is great just where she is. Besides, I thought Bernie supporters didn't like people who "evolved," such as Warren evolving from R to D.

(41,600 posts)would be an excellent choice. A wonderful lady, very smart and a True Progressive who also voted against the IWR - so we know she has PRINCIPLES.
Martin O'Malley would be good. I like him, he's Progressive, he's tough and he's another politician who doesn't mince words. Would play well with Bernie.
