Ryan as VP would hamstring Romney just as Cheney did Bush.

Whether Ryan helps Romney in the election is debatable - I think he doesn't. But he certainly would not help him govern if he were elected. Romney could always sideline him as Kennedy did LBJ of course. But with the Senate balance likely being very close and the VP being able to break ties in the Senate a hostile VP could do a lot of damage to Romney's priorities. This is why I do not believe Romney will pick Ryan and if he does it will prove that Romney really does not care - or understand - how to govern if he were to be elected.

1. Of course Ryan would be a rock star with conservatives which is why

he very well might pick him. He needs to get his conservative base enthused, just as McCain did in 2008, though I agree that like Palin, Ryan may turn out to be a disaster because of his budget, but he is a more deft politician than Palin, too.

You're right Ryan would soak up the lime-light as VP and would be heir apparent. But I think that Mittens just wants to win, just as JFK did in 1960 when he picked LBJ--he knew he needed LBJ to win. That comes first and then worrying about controlling his VP comes second.

2. Ryan is a fraud

flat out.

That being said, he clearly would not be diphit, batshit insane Palin bad.

I think he is a LOT like Romney - he looks the part, is not quite as limited due to not being that privileged, but also is not NEAR as sharp as the media breathlessly makes him out to be.

He would help with the "base" but all the fawning by the elite media won't mean much with a public that does not know who the hell he is. He won't make any tangible difference overall in the election, won't hurt, will help with the base and provide the media something to spin Romney positively with, but again won't make a big difference to the mushy middle.

He is a half empty suit, and put on that platform will be exposed as such. He has nothing relative to national security or anything beyond being the new package for their bullshit economic scam.

3. Even as Senate tiebreaker, the VP is virtually powerless beyond what the President delegates to him.

Ryan's power would come from the rest of the Republicans who would be far, far more loyal to him than to Romney.

4. A VP aligned with RW senators and congress critters would have formidable power.

He could block legislation and torpedo nominations. He could use an impeachment threat to undermine Romney, just as the radical Republicans used impeachment to thwart Andrew Johnson. With Romney, they wouldn't to actually impeach though, unlike Andrew Johnson, he is a political coward.

5. Ryan would be a disaster. The only group that Romney seems strong with is seniors...

he's been able to swindle them into believing his a nice businessman, like the guy that manages the local bank. Ryan will pretty much torpedo that group right out of the chute.

the ONLY way Romney will pick Ryan, is if the koch brothers and the tea party and religious right say "okay, we've given you hundreds of millions of dollars, time to pay up sucker!!"
