Under the bus with Salon.com? Sorry, haters: Hillary Clinton won the Democratic debate

Looks like all the folks 'progressives' are throwing under the bus lately will have some reading material...

Towards the end of the debate, there was an exchange about family leave that showed that, despite a few bumps over issues like Wall Street reform, Hillary Clinton came across as the candidate who was most plugged into how modern Democratic voters think about the issues. When Dana Bash went after Clinton’s support for family leave by framing it as “another government program,” Clinton stomped that nonsense out like a boss.

First she pointed out that is an empty Republican talking point and then she pivoted to a woman’s right to choose, noting that Republicans certainly love “big government” when it comes to stripping women of their reproductive autonomy. It was a smart performance, tying various feminist concerns together, linking them to larger economic concerns, and taking a swipe at Republicans. The audience went nuts for it.

Bernie Sanders then jumped in, agreeing with Clinton’s support for family leave and reminding voters that other industrialized countries have generous leave. But he rooted his argument not in a broader feminist argument, but instead argued that the ideal is having mothers at home with their babies. While he’s not wrong that this is what most women will use family leave for, it was still frustrating to see such essentialist ideas—what about dads who want to stay home or women who actually want to go back to work?—being invoked in service of an otherwise good idea.

The exchange epitomized the overall debate: Both Sanders and Clinton highlighted their progressive views, but Clinton came across as more competent and comprehensive. Sanders is a bulldog on his economic ideas, but Clinton seemed more comfortable talking about a variety of issues that are dear to liberal hearts. (With the notable exception of marijuana legalization, where Sanders put himself ahead of the curve, with Clinton lingering in the “medical marijuana is okay, I guess” territory.) She played up her intelligence and didn’t give into the urge to try to get people to like her, which ironically makes it easier to like her.

Dana says "California is just a state", Hillary notes California has the world's 7th biggest economy and is bigger than most countries.

No one else does.

Online polls aside, Bernie won all the focus groups and garnered $1.3 million in contributions from 37,000 "average, regular" people.

He was tough and concise, and he didn't allow CNN moderators to push those damn Republican talking points! He kept the debate on issues and refused to allow those mods to get off of them.

And he only fumbled once, imo, and that was with his remark that Putin "might regret" his actions. Putin, as everyone knows, uses the Big-Dick way of governing. NO WAY would Putin ever regret anything he's ever done.

That said, Hillary Clinton dominated the stage last night. The woman is beyond ready to be president. She will be our next president in 2017.

nasty comment and questions previously when The Clinton's name comes up. That said. Hillary knows how to debate and can toss in her points--like she did with women's health care.

What exactly she won, other than a cadre of media elites, is up for debate. As to last night's debate, most real people agree that Sanders came out on top. And if money talks, then the haul that Sanders took in post-debate surely has something to say on the matter.

She didn't stink up the joint, but the people think Bernie won. I don't care what some writer says.

And, yes, I do hate Third-Way, corporate-owned politicians and I don't care to say so.

I think other issues are important too. That one is not a deal breaker. I thought her answer was sensible on that. Since some states are legalizing it, they can study how it goes with those few states so the feds can determine the best way to proceed. She did mention she wants to do something about over population of non-violent offenders in prisons.

I'm sick of being labeled a "hater" because I prefer Sanders to Clinton. I don't hate Hillary. I thought she did well in the debate. If she's the candidate, I'll vote for her. Whether or not she "won" the debate is a matter of personal opinion. I and many others think Bernie won. You and many others think Hillary did. IT'S A MATTER OF OPINION.

So, please, stop with the "hater" stuff. It's juvenile. (That's my opinion.)
