Wayne Powell at We Are Women rally in DC, Aug 18!!!

Wayne Powell's commitment to Women's Rights runs very deep. On March 3, 2012, more than a thousand Virginia women and their friends protested peacefully for Women's Rights at the Virginia State Capital. The McDonnell administration overreacted and called in riot police to crush the peaceful protesters, arresting 31 peaceful protesters for doing nothing more than engaging in free speech on the stairs of the Virginia capital building.

When Wayne Powell heard about the arrests, he jumped in his car and drove to downtown Richmond to find out what had happened to the people who had been arrested and to protect their rights. Wayne found that the female protesters had been left isolated on a bus, handcuffed and without access to food, water, or bathrooms for hours.

Wayne made his presence known and demanded access to the arrested protesters. While the police denied him immediate access, they did finally unload the women from the bus and give them access to water and bathrooms. Colonel Powell subsequently offered to defend the arrested protesters on a free, pro bono basis and he did in fact represent several of the protesters in the legal proceedings that followed.

A lot of people talk about supporting Women's Rights, but Wayne Powell has amply demonstrated a willingness to get directly involved in helping the cause. On August 18, 2012, Colonel Powell will be a speaker at the "We Are Woman" rally in Washington, D.C. The rally will be on the West Front Lawn of the U.S. Capitol from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with the program beginning at 11:00 am.
