Serious question: How significant a negative impact will Romney's Seamus fiasco hurt him amongst Republicans and independents ? Politics and policy can get very complex and wonky, but damn, the Seamus fiasco anyone can understand.
Will his brutal treatment of Seamus significantly affect him ? I think it should and directly points to his character. He damn sure had plenty of resources to treat that dog well, whether taking him on the trip or leaving him at home.

Seamus is different: willful brutal totally unnecessary treatment to a PET....
This resonates big time with dog lovers, animal lovers, and any human being with a HEART.

(1,374 posts)More important than most are probably willing to admit. Most Americans don't pay close attention to politics. If they vote at all they just go along with which party they identify with or if they think a candidate can be a good leader or not. That's where likeability factors in.
Of course, some consider policy, but it's hard to elect a leader who you don't respect them or like on a personal level. For that reason I can easily see it affecting him with some Republicans and a lot of Independents.
The Republican base really doesn't like him anyway and are primarily motivated by voting out Obama but likeability is limiting his support and that could turn into a low turnout among his base.
You don't have to be a dog lover to be turned off by the story. Even someone who hates dogs can see what a lack of judgment it was to travel with a dog in a crate on the roof. At least I hope so.
