Florida is just as bad, if not worse in the suppression game. They've been doing it
with great success. 2000

(379 posts)that you can only apply for a voter ID one day a week in PA. If this is true, there is no way they will be able to get so many people that need ID's in such a small timeframe. Does anybody know if this info is true?

(15,071 posts)name does not agree exactly with the name at the polling place (e.g., middle name on one, but not on the other, or middle initial not on one but on the other) the voter could have the vote (a provisional one) invalidated. People will have 6 days to fix it at the courthouse where lines will be so long people will be driven away by the long waits. In other words, just because one is registered to vote does not mean the vote will work. Of 8 people i know, 5 have this discrepancy. The bullshit "substantially conform" in Act 18 means nothing because poll workers will play it safe and demand exact matches for the poll book and photo ID. The Dept of State database (where one can check to see if he/she is registered) does not include a field for middle name or initial.
It is going to be chaos.

(6,476 posts)Hi Everyone...I just found this in my inbox.
Did you get a chance to read Kevin's e-mail yesterday? It's already become our most successful e-mail, but I have to be honest-- we need more supporters to help us reach our goals to ensure we have the strongest possible field program to get our voters the IDs they need to vote.
It's not just Pennsylvanians who are supporting us-- but supporters from dozens of other states know just how important the Commonwealth will be this fall.
We can't do it alone-- we need your help to build the grassroots support necessary to overcome the outrageous Republican tactics so Pennsylvania stays blue come November.
Will you pitch in $12 or more today to help us run our program to make sure every voter has an ID?

Subject: BREAKING: Voter ID Law Upheld
Today's decision by Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson clears the way for the Voter ID bill to take effect. This is not good news for Pennsylvania voters.
The Voter ID bill passed by Harrisburg Republicans is an expensive and unnecessary piece of legislation. It's a solution without a problem.
Now more than ever, we need your help to fight it.
We already started an aggressive field plan to make sure Pennsylvanians have the IDs they need to vote in November, but it's costly and we need your help.
We need to meet our financial goals to run the strongest possible field program to ensure that every Pennsylvania voter has an ID for this critical election.
Can you donate $12 to help the Pennsylvania Democratic Party run its program to make sure every voter has an ID?
We are committed to protecting Pennsylvanians' right to vote, but we need your help to make it across the finish line in November.
We will continue to register voters and educate people about the process to ensure that all eligible voters can get to the polls and exercise their right to vote in November.

(6,150 posts)I am encouraged to know that the Dems have some sort of plan. We send Baltimoreans to PA every weekend, but I don't know what they do when they get there.

(10,893 posts)these voter ID laws. Isn't it unconstitutional to make it harder for people to vote? And what about the Voting Rights Act?

(6,476 posts)and I've been wondering why, when it's been obvious for years that stealing elections is on the rethugs mind, Holder and Obama aren't all over this. Where the hell are they? Why so slow to act?
