Hillary Clinton Falsely Calls Bernie Sanders a Sexist

Hillary Clinton Falsely Calls Bernie Sanders a Sexist
Clinton tries the low road against a candidate of conscience
Brent Budowsky
Observer

Here is the charge: Mr. Sanders has been saying that nothing is achieved by politicians “shouting” about gun control. In response, Ms. Clinton replied she was not “shouting” in her advocacy and implied that when men — in this case Mr. Sanders — say women are “shouting” they are being sexist.

Here is the truth: Bernie Sanders is not a sexist.

Period. Exclamation point. End of discussion. Mr. Sanders has a stellar and uncompromising history of supporting the range of rights and aspirations for women. He and many other male and female politicians often use the word “shouting” as a figure of speech applied equally to men and women in the course of political debate. Ms. Clinton knows this well. She also knows very well that Bernie Sanders is not sexist.

If this column offered a truth-o-meter, this political attack by Ms. Clinton that Mr. Sanders is sexist would earn the maximum number of Pinocchios.

Here is the effect of this Clinton charge against Bernie Sanders: first, it does not enhance her reputation for being trustworthy, which is in need of enhancing, and second, it angers supporters of Mr. Sanders, who she will desperately need to vote for her in November 2016 if she is ultimately the Democratic nominee for president.

It is a political mistake of the first order of magnitude for Ms. Clinton to falsely charge Mr. Sanders with sexism. This charge is transparently false, unworthy of the Clinton campaign and unworthy of the Democratic party.

Suppose the exact same exchange on some issue had occurred in the debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden in 2008.

And the next day Sarah told supporters "Yes. Joe accused me of shouting because I am a woman who is peaking her mind. Well I won't shut up, even if Joe Biden wants me to stop speaking out because I am a woman."

Would you really be defending Palin's behavior?

So...

You somehow equate a false challenge of sexism against Bernie to an assault on his manhood.

You deny the attack while admitting it.

Then you try to suggest that politics is ugly by it's nature?

I am a bit confused about who is saying sexist things now.

That doesn't even mention him by name is strange.

To take such offense to it is weird.

Lots of men don't like being questioned. Especially by a woman. He should steer clear of allowing himself to appear like that. And complaining about it like you've been mortally wounded says a lot.

And that is really what this is. No one that watched the debate thought that he was accusing Hillary of shouting. I don't even know how that is sexism.

And we the people.

If you fundamentally believe attacking a person based on a lie, and think it's OK because "he said it" and "it COULD be true, we don't know" are the reason this country will fall even further.

You see, we as a people can rise up and vote as one. We can vote for the person who is reminding all Americans that we aren't controlled by corporations, or we can vote for the person who is being paid, literally, by those corporations.

So to be OK with an attack ad based on a lie meant to be divisive of the people and distract from the issues to force no engagement of said issues because instead you're responding to a political ad attack, is the reason we will let this one last chance to make this a government about "We the People" again fail.

Obviously, she didn't learn anything from her primary campaign with Barack Obama. She's up to the same dirty tricks.
