2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumElizabeth Warren for President
Well, one can dream.....
I love Bernie, and will support him to the end. But I think Warren would have had more mainstream appeal for Dems, while actually representing a change from the stagnant status quo, and the solidifying of the Bi-Partisan Oligarchy.

"So Hillary uses racism and right wing attack thugs to defeat Obama
No surprise here. Hillary is a traitor to the dem party already for her many endorsements of her good buddy McCain over Obama for president.
"I despise this woman and her despicable lack of morals.
"Hillary Clinton will never set foot in the White House as president. If she steals the nomination somehow the dem party will again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
"And we will all have to go through this garbage again in 2012."

do the same.
Armstead

Keep the faith and use your words carefully, they have power.
For example, what if Warren were to endorse Bernie? .. and do it in a way that hinted
that she'd be delighted to be his VP?
Don't give up the ship just yet Matey.

(14,733 posts)It's why he waited to see if she was going to get in before he announced. The big advantages she would have had over Bernie against Hillary would have been A) being female, and B) not having a 'gun problem'. But you can bet her being a former Republican would have been played up bigtime.

Interesting how her foray into GOP Land (1991-96) overlaps with Big Dawg's time in the WH (1993-2001).

I am fully behind Bernie, but I can't help but wonder what this campaign season would look like right now if EW was one of the candidates.

(9,289 posts)She has a great deal of real expertise in economics that neither Sanders nor Clinton has. But as far as I can see, Sanders is less hawkish than Warren, and is more anti-surveillance state and pro-privacy. He is progressive across the board (except maybe on guns), and she is not.
DemocraticWing
(1,290 posts)She inspires the same people as Bernie, but seems to be more popular with the mushy middle of the Democratic primary electorate.
Now for a dose of realpolitik, the gender gap would be less significant as well. This is what is sinking Bernie's campaign according to recent polls.

(2,792 posts)That counts for something. Friends don't have to agree about everything.
In fact, Clinton has many friends in the Senate (including Sanders). That may be hard for some who dislike Clinton to believe.
There is a good deal of collegiality among Democrats in the Senate.
Who, by the way, are Sanders' best friends in the Senate?
Armstead
(47,803 posts)They agree on absolutely nothing, and go after ach otehr on issues, but Imhoff likes and respects Sanders for his integrity and fighting spirit
Koinos
(2,792 posts)I think that friendship and mutual respect go deeper than policy issues.
