2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWill gun control be as big an issue in the general as it is becoming in the Dem primary?
I tend to think we'll hear almost nothing about gun control in the general except of course in a negative manner from Republicans but I'm interested in what DU thinks about it.

(2,328 posts)Barring a major mass shooting during the run up. That would probably force the issue.
I don't mean to be macabre, nor do I advocate for that scenario. I just don't like to use the phrase 'god forbid'.

(14,733 posts)I think it'll be a pocketbook election, as it usually is. Oh, people may mention climate change, guns, police brutality, even foreign affairs, but when it comes down to voting, it'll be people voting what they think will help them get more money to pay the bills.

(5,279 posts)Firearms should have restrictions based on fire power. The greater the potential of firepower, the stricter the regulations and greater the severity of punishment.
Weapons with detachable ammo feeders should be titled as are cars.
Weapons should be secured in accordance with established guidelines.
Security/home defense firearms should have fire power and quick access storage restrictions.
Concealed carry must be by permit, permits to be issued when evidence of common exposure to life threatening dangers.
Open carry can be regulated by civil ordinances.
On Edit:
This has to be marketed very carefully. Gun control has such a strong stigma, it is a proven vote killer. It just bit us on the ass in Virginia.

(20,176 posts)Every Democratic nomination-seeker favors more gun control than we currently have.
No Republican supports expanding gun control.
It's not going to be any more or less of an issue regardless who the nominee is.
